Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "A couple things were nice to see tonight; we got the win and it was nice to see Callie (Scheier) back out there. I know she has worked hard to get to this point. It was satisfying to see her get back to doing what she loves…. Defensively, I still think we need to get better, they got by us a little too easy. There are things we need to clean up. Overall, with the fourth quarter effort I'm happy."
Callie Scheier made her debut after suffering a season-ending injury last year. Scheier had eight points and earned the start as she scored the first points of the game.
"There was a lot of emotions starting with warmups," Scheier said. "I went out there at 90 minutes to start shooting. I was nervous and excited all at the same time. I love basketball, I love playing and I love my teammates and coaches. Getting back out there was super exciting and I'm looking forward to continuing it the rest of the season."
All 10 active Panthers got in the game tonight. The team accounted for 12 steals, scoring 26 points off turnovers.
Nakyah Terrell and
Faith Price both recorded three steals, while Anna Hager and
Amaria McNear tallied a block a piece. Each member pulled in at least one rebound with Hager and Scheier leading with six.
The 3-point game was on fire for High Point as they knocked down 14 total as a team. Bevis and Terrell lead with a combined 27 points from beyond the arc.
Claire Wyatt and McNear also joined the parade by splashing a few.
The Panther bench scored 38 points.
Bukky Akinsola tallied 12, as she came alive in the 4
th quarter. McNear scored a career high 15 points as she went 2-3 from beyond the arc and 4-6 in the paint.
