Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "That was a close one. I'll say that I think we are fortunate to get away with a win. I've never seen a team give up 36 offensive rebounds. The fact that we were still able to find a way to win is amazing. Our players made plays; it was nice seeing
Cydney Johnson out there, her first game back after her ACL. She was a big help for us defensively and rebounding when she went in… I am happy we won, there are things that I think we did well and things that we are going to work on."
Johnson in her first game back was able to fight for six points, five rebounds and one assist.
"We put her up against Turner and she gave her a little more physicality," said Banbury. "I think she did a great job on her."
Callie Scheier once again came out of the gates firing towards the basket. Scheier scored the first points of the game draining both of her free throws.
High Point was able to score 25 points in the first quarter, as 10 points came off turnovers. Five Panthers recorded a steal to help put up some easy buckets.
Bukky Akinsola continued to be a problem on the court for the other team. Akinsola dished out five assists and snagged five steals while also recording two blocks.
The game really started to get close in the second half. The Hatters were slowly crawling their way back into this one. High Point was up six with six to play in the third quarter as
Nakyah Terrell, Scheier and
Faith Price drained back-to-back-to-back threes to go up 45-32.
High Point held the lead the majority of the game, but the Hatters kept chipping away. HPU held a three-point lead with 4:30 left on the clock in the fourth quarter.
Lauren Bevis received a pass from Akinsola in the corner and Bevis paused, then drained a three pointer to go up six.
It came down to the last minute of the game to decide the winner in this content. The Hatters were having trouble making shots to close the gap. High Point was able to lockdown the Stetson offense to hold out and win it.
Up Next: High Point remains at home as Wofford comes to town on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.
