DURHAM, N.C. – The High Point University men's soccer team took a 3-0 loss from preseason No. 12 Duke in their second exhibition match.
Head coach
Zach Haines: "We don't like the scoreline tonight. There were a few disappointing moments from us, self-inflicted. But we also created six or seven huge chances and sustained pressure for stretches through some good play with and without the ball against a top team. Everyone available played. We know what we need to address to take another step forward. It was ideal for this point in preseason. I know the guys will balance taking the positives as well as the urgency needed to work and improve so that we can be ready for the home opener next week."
Despite several early fouls, the Panthers battled with the Blue Devils throughout the first half to enter halftime with both sides scoreless.
A seven-minute stretch plagued the Panthers in the second half as Duke capitalized on three opportunities to turn a scoreless battle into a 3-0 match.
Up Next: High Point returns to Vert Stadium on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. when they take on Mars Hill to round out the preseason schedule.
