HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University's
Daniel Lugo and
Roman Holt have been named to the TopDrawerSoccer Best XI First Teams, which the organization announced this week.
Lugo was tabbed to the TDS Best XI First Team as a forward, while the defender Holt earned a spot on the TDS Freshman Best XI First Team. The Floridan duo helped the Panthers to the best season in program history that featured a 14-2-4 record, two Big South Conference trophies and first-ever Sweet Sixteen appearance.
In his first full season, Holt started and played in all 20 games while logging 1720 minutes with 14 full-time matches. The redshirt defender contributed to 10 clean sheets and a 0.76 goals against average He dished out his first collegiate assist at Radford on Oct. 18, and now he pairs his Big South All-Freshman Team honors with this TDS Freshman Best XI accolade.
Transferring to High Point from North Carolina, the redshirt sophomore striker made an immediate impact in one season, starting in 19 of 20 games while scoring 14 goals — with a single-season program best seven game-winning scores — and assisting on five for a team and conference-leading 33 points in 1,191 minutes played. The fourth all-time United Soccer Coaches All-American scored in 12 matches, two of those with a brace, and was the Panthers' second-highest draft pick when the Vancouver Whitecaps selected him in the first round with the 29th overall pick on Dec. 18.
Lugo has racked up the accolades in one season as the Big South Offensive Player of the Year, Big South Newcomer of the Year, Big South Tournament MVP, Big South First Team member, MAC Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List, and TDS Player of the Year Finalist — after being named a TDS Midseason Top 100 Player at No. 31 before ending the year as the No. 4 player in the nation — and now is a member of the TDS Best XI First Team.
