High Point women's lacrosse will head up north to Maryland as they face Michigan at the US Lacrosse Headquarters on Wednesday (Mar. 2) at 1 pm. The 2021 Big South Champs will then head to Emmitsburg, Maryland on Saturday (Mar. 5th) to face Mount St. Mary's at Waldron Family Stadium at 1 pm.

Matchup History

  • Wednesday marks the third meeting between the Panthers and the Wolverines. 
  • HPU holds a 2-0 record over Michigan. The two teams last met in 2017 in which the Panthers came out with a 13-12 victory. 
  • Saturday marks the second meeting between HPU and the Mountaineers.
  • The Panthers are 1-0 all time against Mount St. Mary's with their lone victory coming in 2011 by a score of 12-5.

Across the Bench

Michigan

  • The Wolverines are 5-0 through their first five games of the 2022 season with victories coming against Detroit Mercy, Notre Dame, Arizona State, Cincinnati and Towson 
  • Caitlin Muir currently leads the offense for Michigan with 7 goals and 9 assists on the season
  • Hannah Nielsen is in her fifth year as the Michigan head coach. She is just the second coach in program history  

Mount St. Mary's

  • The Mountaineers are 3-2 through their first five games in the 2022 season. They have victories coming against Towson, UMBC and Binghamton 
  • Zoe Hulburt currently leads Mount St. Mary's in points on the season with 13 goals and 4 assists on the season.

Hormes Holding It Down

Abby Hormes is eighth in NCAA Division I active career leaders for points per game (4.51), fourth in goals (219), and seventh in goals per game (3.37).

Hormes holds High Point records for goals (219), points (293), shots (405), shots on goal (312), and is tied for third for game-winning goals (8). For each HPU record she holds, Hormes completed the feat in the fewest games played (65).

The Chase for Seven

HPU owns the title to the past four Big South Tournament Championships (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021) after the 2020 Tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. High Point has also been the regular season Big South champion in each of the past four seasons. In the eight years of the conference championships, the Panthers have claimed five regular season titles and six tournament titles.

Kraft and Hormes Earn Preseason Recognition

Jenna Kraft and Hormes were named to the 2022 Big South Preseason All-Conference Team. Kraft earned her first preseason nod after forcing 26 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers last season.

Hormes Named Preseason Player of the Year

Abby Hormes was named the Big South's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the fourth straight season after a stellar senior campaign. Hormes recorded 98 points (76g, 22a), 16 caused turnovers, and 32 ground balls in 2021.

Panthers Picked as Preseason Favorite

High Point was voted as the top-Big South team in the 2022 preseason poll. HPU garnered nine first place votes and 99 total points.
