HPU Hosts #10 Duke in Vert on Tuesday Night

High Point men's lacrosse will return to Vert Stadium to host #10 Duke on Tuesday (Mar. 1) night. The opening face off is set for 7 pm. Tuesday night marks the third time the Panthers welcome the Blue Devils to High Point. The matchup creates a rematch of HPU's first round tournament game last season where the Panthers faced Duke. 

Matchup History

  • Tuesday will be the 10th meeting between the Panthers and the Blue Devils
  • HPU holds a 1-8 record against Duke, with their most recent victory coming in the 2019 season when the Panthers came out with a 13-9 victory. 
  • HPU and Duke met twice in the 2021 season; they first met in the non-conference season in which Duke came away with a 27-8 victory. The two teams met again in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Chapel Hill. The Blue Devils came out on top with a 16-10 win. 

Across the Bench

  • The Blue Devils have opened up the 2022 season with a 5-2 record, with victories coming against Robert Morris, Vermont, Manhattan, Denver, and Delaware. 
  • Duke is coming off of a 14-13 overtime loss to the University of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
  • Dyson Williams currently leads Duke in offensive points with 23 goals and 6 assists in the opening seven games. 
  • Duke finished the 2021 with a 14-3 record. Their season came to an end in the NCAA tournament semifinals with a 14-5 loss to #1 Maryland

Last Time Out

The High Point University men's lacrosse team came out on top in a back and forth 14-13 battle in their first-ever matchup against Navy. Michael Ippolito led the way for the Panthers in scoring with four goals on the day. Asher Nolting netted three goals and dished out five assists for eight points.

Chasing 300

Nolting has 287 points in his career. Nolting is tied for 21 all time for points in the NCAA. He is currently tied with the Powells, Casey and Ryan.

Help!

Nolting is now 18th all-time for most assists in NCAA history with 165. He is 73 assists away from becoming the NCAA all-time assists leader. 



Ippolito's Impact

Prior to his senior season, Michael Ippolito had four goals in his career. Through four games he has scored seven goals on the year and had four goals in the win against Navy. 

Since the Beginning of Time

Nolting has recorded at least one point in every college game he has ever played in. He is one of five active DI players to achieve this feat heading into 2022. His goals-assists points line looks like this: 122-165-287.

Hunter Vines received the first All-Southern Conference honor of his career in January. The senior played in all 14 games last season and started in nine, finishing the year with 14 goals and 12 assists. Vines scored two goals in the Panthers 11-9 semifinal win.
