The High Point women's lacrosse team will begin their four-week road trip this weekend as they travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia to face James Madison on Saturday (Feb 26). First faceoff is set for 12 pm.

Matchup History

The Panthers are 1-6 all-time against James Madison, with their lone victory coming in the 2016 season. HPU and JMU most recently met in 2021 in which the Dukes came away with a hard-fought 10-9 victory in blizzard-like conditions.

Across the Bench

James Madison has opened up the 2022 season with a 1-2 record. The Dukes are coming off of a 13-7 victory over #23 UCONN. JMU has also faced #2 UNC and Virginia Tech. Isabella Peterson currently leads the Dukes in points with 11 goals through 3 games on the season.

Head coach Shelley Klaes returns for her 16th season at James Madison. Klaes led the program to its first ever national championship title in 2018.

Panther Notes

Cha Picks Up First Weekly Honor

Cha exploded for three goals in just her second collegiate game against #6 Duke. On Sunday, she scored her first collegiate goal against the Blue Devils. The freshman helped HPU fight back into the game as it was a one-two goal game throughout the first three quarters. This is the second straight Big South weekly honor the Panthers have earned Big South weekly accolades.

Hormes Holding It Down

Abby Hormes is sixth in NCAA Division I active career leaders for points per game (4.52), fourth in goals (215), and sixth in goals per game (3.36).

Hormes holds High Point records for goals (215), points (289), shots (394), shots on goal (304), and is tied for third for game-winning goals (8). For each HPU record she holds, Hormes completed the feat in the fewest games played (64).

The Chase for Seven

HPU owns the title to the past four Big South Tournament Championships (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021) after the 2020 Tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. High Point has also been the regular season Big South champion in each of the past four seasons. In the eight years of the conference championships, the Panthers have claimed five regular season titles and six tournament titles.

Kraft and Hormes Earn Preseason Recognition

Jenna Kraft and Hormes were named to the 2022 Big South Preseason All-Conference Team. Kraft earned her first preseason nod after forcing 26 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers last season.

Hormes Named Preseason Player of the Year

Abby Hormes was named the Big South's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the fourth straight season after a stellar senior campaign. Hormes recorded 98 points (76g, 22a), 16 caused turnovers, and 32 ground balls in 2021.
