HPU Faces-off with Navy For First Time Ever

Saturday, Feb. 26th- vs Navy (Annapolis, M.D.) 12:00 PM (ESPN+).

High Point men's lacrosse will head back up north to Maryland for the second time already this season to face Navy in Annapolis on Saturday (Feb. 26). The opening face off is set for 12 pm. 

Matchup History

  • Saturday marks the first meeting between the Panthers and the Midshipmen.
  • Navy is the second Patriot League conference member that HPU will face in a two week span

Across the Bench

  • The Midshipmen have opened up the 2022 season with a 3-1 record, with victories coming against Manhattan, Hofstra and Mercer. Their lone defeat came against Mount St. Marys. 
  • Patrick Skalniak currently leads Navy in offensive points with 10 goals and 9 assists in the opening four games. 
  • Navy finished the 2021 with a 6-3 record. Their season came to an end in the Patriot League tournament with a 16-9 loss to Loyola

Last Time Out

HPU fell narrowly to #1 Virginia in an epic 11-10 game on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 13). Asher Nolting, Michael Ippolito, and Brayden Mayea scored two goals each on Sunday. Nolting led the Panthers in points with five on the day via two goals and three assists.

Help!

Nolting is now 18th all-time for most assists in NCAA history with 160. He is 73 assists away from becoming the NCAA all-time assists leader.

Nolting Garners All-American Attention

Nolting was named a preseason media All-American by Inside Lacrosse. Nolting was named to the third team, the fifth-year senior is on pace to become HPU's first four-time team All-American. The Greenwood Village, Colorado native was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch list in 2021 for the third season in a row. He was also a 2021 Tewaaraton Award nominee. Nolting scored 27 goals and had 45 assists.

Since the Beginning of Time

Nolting has recorded at least one point in every college game he has ever played in. He is one of five active DI players to achieve this feat heading into 2022. His goals-assists points line looks like this: 116-161-278.

One Viner

Hunter Vines received the first All-Southern Conference honor of his career in January. The senior played in all 14 games last season and started in nine, finishing the year with 14 goals and 12 assists. Vines scored two goals in the Panthers 11-9 semifinal win.

Panthers Picked First

The Panthers earned 24 points in the preseason poll and four first-place votes, projecting HPU first. It's the second time HPU has been picked first in the preseason poll. The last time was 2016 following the Panther's first SoCon title in 2015.
