Mena Loescher also returns in 2022 after leading HPU with a team-high 30 assists last season.
Matchup History
The Panthers are 7-3 all-time against Davidson, posting wins in four out of the last six contests. Last season was the first meeting for the two teams since 2016 and saw Davidson nab a 15-14 thriller in High Point in overtime.
Across the Bench
Davidson returns a solid core with three of their top four point-scorers back on the 2022 roster. Erin Cooke led the Wildcats in points a season ago, scoring 31 goals and dishing out a team-high 20 assists. Julianne Carey chipped in 41 total points with a balanced 26 goals and 15 assists while Giana New finished the season with 29 goals.
Head coach Kim Wayne returns for her 14
th season at Davidson. She led the Wildcats to an 11-4 record in 2021 that saw Davidson take down No. 16 Virginia Tech, 15-8, in a mid-March matchup.

Hormes Holding It Down
Abby Hormes is eighth in NCAA Division I active career leaders for points per game (4.53), ninth in goals (209), and 10
th in goals per game (3.37).
Hormes holds High Point records for goals (209), points (281), shots (379), shots on goal (294), and is tied for third for game-winning goals (8). For each HPU record she holds, Hormes completed the feat in the fewest games played (62).
The Chase for Seven
HPU owns the title to the past four Big South Tournament Championships (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021) after the 2020 Tournament was canceled due to Covid. High Point has also been the regular season Big South champion in each of the past four seasons. In the eight years of the conference championships, the Panthers have claimed five regular season titles and six tournament titles.
Kraft and Hormes Earn Preseason Recognition
Jenna Kraft and
Abby Hormes were named to the 2022 Big South Preseason All-Conference Team. Kraft earned her first preseason nod after forcing 26 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers last season.
Hormes Named Preseason Player of the Year
Abby Hormes was named the Big South's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the fourth straight season after a stellar senior campaign. Hormes recorded 98 points (76g, 22a), 16 caused turnovers, and 32 ground balls in 2021.

High Point was voted as the top-Big South team in the 2022 preseason poll. HPU garnered nine first place votes and 99 total points.
