High Point men's lacrosse will host their 2022 home opener on Friday evening as they welcome Colgate to Vert Stadium at 5 pm. The 2021 SoCon Champs will then head to Charlottesville, Virginia on Sunday to face the 2021 National Champions #1 Virginia at Klockner Stadium at 3 pm.
Matchup History
- Friday marks the first meeting between the Panthers and the Raiders.
- Sunday marks the seventh meeting between HPU and the Cavaliers. The Panthers are 2-4 all time against Virginia with their most recent victory coming in 2019 by a score of 14-13.
- Last season HPU fell to UVA in a hard-fought 12-11 battle. Dalton Sulver, Brayden Mayea, and Kevin Rogers all posted a multi-goal game against the eventual 2021 National Champions.Â

First Friday Night Opener
The Colgate game on Friday night marks the first time HPU has ever hosted a home opener game inside Vert Stadium on a Friday evening.Â
Mayea Makes Weekly HonorsÂ
Mayea picked up where he left off following his tremendous freshman season, against Maryland Mayea had five goals. Matching the game-high as UMD's Logan Wisnauskas had five of his own. This is the fourth time in his career that Mayea has scored five or more goals. This was only the fourth time a Panther has scored five goals in the season opener: Dan Lomas, Matt Thistle five each against Delaware 2015. Dan Lomas five goals 2013.
Nolting Garners All-American Attention
Nolting was named a preseason media All-American by Inside Lacrosse. Nolting was named to the third team, the fifth-year senior is on pace to become HPU's first four-time team All-American. The Greenwood Village, Colorado native was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch list in 2021 for the third season in a row. He was also a 2021 Tewaaraton Award nominee. Nolting scored 27 goals and had 45 assists.
Since the Beginning of Time
Nolting has recorded at least one point in every college game he has ever played in. He is one of five active DI players to achieve this feat heading into 2022. His goals-assists points line looks like this: 111-158-269.
One Viner
Hunter Vines received the first All-Southern Conference honor of his career in January. The senior played in all 14 games last season and started in nine, finishing the year with 14 goals and 12 assists. Vines scored two goals in the Panthers 11-9 semifinal win.
Panthers Picked First
The Panthers earned 24 points in the preseason poll and four first-place vote projecting HPU first. It's on the second time HPU has been picked first in the preseason poll. The last time was 2016 following the Panther's first SoCon title in 2015.
