SoCon Champs!

The High Point University men's lacrosse team won its second SoCon title with an 11-8 victory over #18 Richmond. Six Panthers scored in the SoCon Championship win. Kevin Rogers led the way in goals and points with four goals and an assist for five points. Dalton Sulver and Asher Nolting each scored two goals as well in the win.

Panthers in the Tournament

This is High Point's second NCAA Tournament appearance ever and first since 2015. In 2015 the Panthers took on Towson in Towson, Md. The #17 Tigers won 10-8 in a close battle.

The Panthers were one of 16 teams to earn the way into the NCAA Tournament and just one of eight automatic qualifiers.

 Across the Bench

  • Duke is led by its head coach John Danowski who is 33-18 in the NCAA tournament.
  • Michael Sowers has captured the attention of the lacrosse world again this season he has 67 points on the season. The Panthers match the firepower of Sowers with an offensive powerhouse of their own in Asher Nolting who has 68 points on the season.

Panther Notes

Passing Gary Gait

With 10:52 to play in the first against Jacksonville in the SoCon semifinal, Nolting scored to put HPU up 2-1. With his early goal, Nolting tied the legendary Gary Gait for career collegiate points with 253. With 6:03 to play in the first, the All-SoCon freshman team selection Mayea got on the board for High Point. Nolting was able to fake and create enough space at X to find Mayea in the front of the goal as he was able to finish. With that assist, Nolting passed Gait for career points with 254. Nolting ended the night with four points moving his career total to 256. He added three in the championship game against Richmond.

Panthers Earn All SoCon Honors

Brayden Mayea, Nolting, and Rogers received All-Southern Conference honors as announced by the conference office on Tuesday (May 4th) morning. Mayea was named to the All SoCon Freshman team while Nolting and Rogers earned First-team honors.

Nolting's National Streak

Nolting has scored a point in every single game of his career. It is a streak that continued in the SoCon Championship game on Friday against Richmond as he had three points in the win. The streak spans 50 games.

Numerals Do Lie

Rogers is featured in a two-page story in this April's issue of US Lacrosse Magazine. The story explores Rogers' journey from Lynchburg (DIII) to High Point.
