#19 High Point Takes on #1 Duke in Ranked Primetime Showdown on ESPNU

Wednesday, March 10th- at #1 Duke (Durham, N.C.)

The #19 High Point University men's lacrosse team (1-3) travels to Durham to take on #1 Duke (6-0) on Wednesday (March 10th) in primetime. It will be the third time the Panthers have been on national television this season. The game will be played in Koskinen Stadium and will be nationally televised on ESPNU with Chris Cotter and Quint Kessenich on the call. First face-off will take place at 7:00 PM.

Matchup History

  • High Point is 1-7 all-time against Duke with their win being the last time they were in Koskinen stadium which came in 2019 where HPU won 13-9. Chris Young led the way with four goals and Tim Troutner Jr. had 19 saves.

Across the Bench

  • The Blue Devils are 6-0 on the season and have two ranked wins this season over Denver and Richmond. Wednesday's game against HPU will be the fourth SoCon team Duke has played this season and the third in a row. Duke will play five SoCon teams this season (Mercer, Air Force, Richmond, High Point, Jacksonville).
  • Duke's leading scorer is Princeton grad-transfer Michael Sowers who leads the Blue Devils in points with 32 on the season he has 13 goals on the season and 19 assists on the year.

Duke's Michael Sowers averages 6.30 points per game for his career and is the active career leader in points per game. Asher Nolting is fourth in the nation in active career points per game with 5.10.

Mr. Kevin Rogers has not missed a beat in his transition from DIII to DI Rogers is currently tied for first in goals for the Panthers with 12 on the season so far. Rogers has scored at least two goals each time out through four games with HPU.

Bray's Way

The freshman Brayden Mayea has been fantastic for the Panthers since joining the team. Mayea is tied for the lead in goals for HPU this season with ten on year through only three games. The newcomer 16th in the nation in shooting percentage with a percentage of .600 Mayea has the 14th highest percentage for a player with ten goals or more. 

200 Club

Against UNC on 2/16 Nolting recorded his 200th career point as a Panther. Nolting currently has the 11th most points of any active player across DI men's lacrosse. Rogers also picked up his 200th career point against UVA in the last time out for the Panthers.

HPU is currently ranked #18 in the USILA Coaches Poll and #19 Inside Lacrosse Poll. Coach Jon Torpey was recently featured as a guest on "ReLAXin with P Carc" an ESPN talk show segment hosted by Paul Carcaterra that has aired on ESPN's networks. The Panthers have played on national TV (ACC Network, ESPNU) already three times this season which leads the SoCon.

The game against #1 Duke on Wednesday will be the fourth of a four-game streak where the Panthers only play ACC opponents. 

Must ACSEE 

The Panthers' last three nationally televised ACC matchups have come down to the wire. A season ago against UVA, the Hoos won by only three goals and earlier this season on the ACC Network the Tar Heels hung on to win by two goals. The last time out the Panthers faced UVA on the ACC Network as the Hoos survived by one goal 12-11.
