The High Point University's women's lacrosse team travels to Harrisonburg, Va. for an end-of-the-week matchup against #11 James Madison on Friday (Feb. 26). The Dukes will be playing in their season opener against the Panthers. The game will not be streamed but there will be live stats and live coverage from the High Point women's lacrosse social channels. 

Matchup History

  • Friday's game marks the seventh time the two sides have met the Panthers are 1-5 against JMU, HPU's win over the Dukes came in 2016 where the Panthers won 15-9. JMU was ranked #21 at the time. Emily Meier led the way for the Panthers in the win with four goals and an assist. 
  • HPU faced JMU a season ago inside Vert Stadium. The Dukes won 13-8 despite a late charge by the Panthers where they scored six of the last eight goals of the contest.

Ashley Britton leads HPU in scoring the graduate student has nine goals through only three games, Britton is tied for ninth for the most goals scored in the nation. Britton is also second on the team in draw controls with 10 on the season so far. 

Hormes Sets the Pace

Abby Hormes scored four goals against the number one team in the nation in UNC. Hormes scored the most a single player has against the Tar Heels this season. Hormes has eight goals on the season which is the second most for HPU. 

Mena Helps

Mena Loescher leads HPU in assists with six helpers on the season. Loescher is second in the Big South in assists with six. 

Drawn to Success

Megan Nerney already has a team-leading 14 draw controls through three games. Nerney is third in the conference in draw controls.

Across the Bench

  • A season ago the Dukes were led by then-freshman Isabella Peterson who scored 15 goals and also added three assists for a team-leading 18 points.
  • The Dukes are coached by Shelley Klaes who is in her 15th season as the head coach of JMU. 
  • James Madison is three seasons removed from a 2018 national championship making Friday the second straight game HPU is facing a former national champion.
