The High Point University women's basketball team returns to Qubein for a Pre-Turkey Day game with Wake Forest. This will be the Panther's final home game in the month of November before they return to Qubein Arena on December 9th when they host King.  
 
Across the Bench
Wake Forest has started 2021-22 with a spotless 5-0 record. The Demon Deacons boast wins over Mercer, Cornell, UNC-Greensboro, Charlotte, and East Carolina. They have won four out of the five by 10 points or more. Their closest win was over Charlotte on November 18th at they picked up a 55-49 victory after battling back from a seven-point halftime deficit.
 
Sophomore guard Jewel Spear leads Wake Forest with 20.2 points per game and has dished out nine assists and tallied six steals on the season. Junior forward Olivia Summiel is the top rebounder on the team, pulling down 8.2 boards per game while recording a team-high five blocks. Freshman guard Elise Williams has also helped the offense with 15 assists and made an impact defensively with seven steals and three blocks.
 
As a team, Wake Forest is shooting 38.9 percent from the floor and holding their opponents to 33.1 percent. They also shoot 25.8 percent from three-point land and limit opponents to 20.6 percent behind the arc.
 
Last Time Out
HPU dropped a 76-54 loss to Davidson on the road over the weekend for their second loss on the season. The Panthers were led offensively by Claire Wyatt (17 points) and Jenson Edwards (15 points). Jordan Edwards dished out five assists while Courtney Meadows handed out four.
 
 
Power 5 Matchup
Wednesday's game against Wake Forest will be the first Power 5 opponent the Panthers have met this season.
 
Power 5's in Qubein Arena
Wake Forest will be the first Power 5 team HPU hosts in Qubein Arena after opening the 2021-22 season in the new venue.

As a team the Panthers finished 21st in NCAA Division I three-point percentage last season, shooting 36.5% from the three-point line. Through four games this season, HPU is shooting 37.7% from behind the arc.
 
 
Terrell Named Freshman of the Week
Freshman Nakyah Terrell was named the Big South Freshman of the Week for the first weekly awards of the season. Terrell poured in 29 points and pulled down10 rebounds in her first week of regular season games for the Panthers. She also tallied nine assists and three steals to go along with two blocks.
 
Record Book Watch
Redshirt junior Jenson Edwards finished in the top-five all-time for season field goal percentage in 2020-21. Edwards was 141-279 (.505) from the floor. Edwards was also ninth for free throws made and percentage in a season. She was third in percentage (.882) and ninth in free throws made (90). Jenson's .418 three-point percentage last season was fourth all-time for HPU as well.
 
Jordan Edwards finished tied for fifth for assists in a season (142) and third in assists per game (5.1). Edwards has dished out 10 assists and six steals through the first three games in 2021-22.
 
 
Banbury is Back
Head coach Chelsea Banbury is entering her third season at the helm. She was named the fifth Division I head coach of High Point University's women's basketball team in June 2019. Banbury has a 38-20 record at High Point through her first two seasons.
 
Panthers Enter as Preseason No. 1
High Point was selected as the preseason No. 1 in the Big South while Skyler Curran and Jenson Edwards both earned Big South Preseason honors. Curran was named Big South Preseason Player of the Year after leading the team in scoring last season (17.7 points/game) while Edwards earned Big South Preseason Second Team recognition. Edwards also garnered the Becky Hammond Mid-Major Player of the Year Award after she posted the fifth-highest scoring average in the Big South with a total of 14.6 points per game.
