 The High Point University men's lacrosse team (1-2) kicks off a two-game road trip starting on Sunday (Feb. 23) at the alma mater of Jon Torpey, PJ Petersand Trey Smith Calvert Hall in Baltimore, Md. Calvert Hall will be the neutral stage where High Point will matchup against #12 Cornell (2-0) at noon. 

 Matchup History

  • Sunday marks the first time HPU and Cornell will face each other. High Point is the first SOCON team on Cornell's schedule in two years. Cornell's last SOCON opponent was Air Force in 2018. 
  • HPU will be seeking its first win against an Ivy League opponent, the only other Ivy league opponent the Panthers have faced was Brown.
  • High Point is in a neutral site regular-season game for the second time in its history. The first neutral-site game was against St. Joseph's at Woodberry Forest in the Panthers' inaugural season in 2013. 

Panther Notes 

  • This the fourth game of the season for HPU and this will be the third game where the Panthers are facing a ranked opponent. High Point comes into this game after picking up its first win last week against Drexel. 
  • Several Panthers picked up their first goal of the season to help HPU secure the win against Drexel including Mitchel Snyder, Nick Murphyand Devon Buckshot. It was Buckshot and Murphy's first goals of their career. 
  • Parker Green's 21 saves opening weekend is still the most saves in a single game by any goalie this season in Division I lacrosse. He has 55 saves on the season which is the third most saves in the nation. He has gone three weeks in a row with double-digit save performances. Last week the freshman brought in 15 saves in his first collegiate win.  
  • Davis Sampere won a season-high 19 faceoffs and picked up 10 grounds balls against the Dragons. Sampere's 19 wins ranks for 14th in the country for faceoff wins in a single game. 
  • Asher Nolting was selected to the Tewaaraton watch list for the third year in a row. The only Panther to be selected three times to the Tewaaraton watch list is Dan LomasThree Panthers have received this honor that list includes Nolting, Lomas, and Tim Troutner Jr.
  • Freshman Tyler Hendrycks leads the team in goals scored with seven heading into the fourth game of the season. Hunter Vines scored three against Drexel and is tied for second with Nolting in goals scored on the year with five.
  • HPU is first in the SOCON in man-up goals with seven on the season. The Panthers are averaging 2.33 man-up goals per contest.
  • Nolting has recorded at least one point in every game he has played in at HPU (33 games). His 33-game streak ranks 14th in the nation. He has 169 points during this steak. He is also currently on a 19-game goal streak with 49 goals scored during this stretch. Nolting is the SOCON's active leader in points. 
  • According to NCAA Strength of Schedule, HPU has the 14th toughest schedule in the nation this season.
  • The Panthers had twelve players score a goal in the win against Drexel on Saturday with four scoring multiple goals. 
  • High Point's roster features players from 21 states and provinces which is tied for second for most states and provinces represented in all of Division I lacrosse. This list includes California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Ontario, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Vermont. 

Across the Bench

  • Cornell enters this neutral-site contest with a record of 2-0. The Big Red have a quick turnaround for their match up with HPU on Sunday (Feb. 23.) after a 17-10 win over Towson on Friday (Feb. 21).
  • Freshmen Michael Long and Brian Piatelli led the Big Red to victory over the Tigers on Friday night as they scored four goals each. Senior Connor Fletcher added three goals in the win. 
  • Peter Milliman was promoted to the position of Richard M. Moran Head Coach of Men's Lacrosse in 2018. Milliman is 23-10 in two seasons at the helm for Cornell. His overall career record is 60-36 in six seasons. A season ago Milliman and Cornell were 10-5 and 4-2 in conference play. 
  • Senior Jeff Teat was also named to the Tewaaraton Award men's watch list for the third time in his career. Each team on Sunday as a Tewaaraton watch list selection on their roster.
