HIGH POINT, N.C.--The High Point University men's lacrosse team (0-2) spends their second straight weekend in Vert Stadium as it hosts Drexel (0-0) on Saturday (Feb. 15) at noon.  

 Matchup History

  • Drexel leads the series against High Point 2-1, the Panthers lone win against the Dragons came on the road they will be seeking their first home win against them this weekend.
  • The last meeting between the two came a season ago on the road in 2019 as High Point defeated Drexel in an overtime thriller 15-14 in Philadelphia on Feb 16.  Ben Baker was the leading scorer with three goals in the contest against the Dragons. Koby Russell was the hero, as his goal in overtime clinched the victory for HPU. 
  • This is the third time High Point has hosted Drexel at home, this is the last home game in February for HPU. The Panthers return to Vert on March 2nd. 

Panther Notes 

  • Parker Green's 20 saves opening weekend is still the most saves in a single game by any goalie this season in Division I lacrosse. He has 33 saves on the season which is the second-most saves in the nation. He has gone back to back weeks with double-digit save performances. 
  • Asher Nolting was selected to the Tewaaraton watch list for the third year in a row. The only Panther to be selected three times to the Tewaaraton watch list is Dan Lomas. Three Panthers have received this honor that list includes Nolting, Lomas, and Tim Troutner Jr.
  • Freshman Tyler Hendrycks leads the team in goals scored with five heading into the third game of the season. He is the first freshman to be the lone leader in goals two games in since Lomas in 2013, who had nine goals in the first two games.
  • HPU is second the SOCON in man-up goals with three on the season. The Panthers are averaging 1.50 man-up goals per contest.
  • Nolting has recorded at least one point in every game he has played in at HPU (32 games). His 32-game streak ranks 14th in the nation. He has 164 points during this steak. He is also currently on an 18-game goal streak with 47 goals scored during this stretch.
  • According to NCAA Strength of Schedule, HPU has the 14th toughest schedule in the nation this season.
  • The Panthers had six players score a goal against Duke on Saturday with two scoring multiple goals. Ten Panthers recorded points on Saturday.
  • HPU was selected to finish second in the SOCON preseason poll and received two first-place votes.
  • High Point's roster features players from 21 states and provinces which is tied for second for most states and provinces represented in all of Division I lacrosse. This list includes California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Ontario, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Vermont. 

Across the Bench

  • This is Drexel's first game of the 2020 season, the Dragons come into the season following a 16-14 loss in the CAA championship game to #12 Towson. 
  • The Dragons return their top goal scorer in senior Reid Bowering who scored 47 goals a season ago. He only scored less than three goals four times last season.
  • Coach Brian Voelker is entering his 18th season as a college coach, this will be his 11th season as Drexel's head coach. His overall record is 123-120. He is ranked 23rd in wins amongst active coaches in Division I Lacrosse. His record at Drexel is 81-69. 
  • Drexel had four players selected to the All CAA preseason team, Reid Bowering, Jimmeh Koita, Collin Mailman, and Sean Quinn. The Dragons enter the season with preseason all-conference selections on attack, midfield, defense, and at the faceoff x.
