Track and Field Competes in Annual Fire on the Track Event

FULL RESULTS

HIGH POINT, N.C.--
High Point University track and field held their annual Fire on the Track inner squad competition last week. Fire on the Track finished on Saturday and featured a full slate of events and a great display of passion and competition for the Panthers.

"It was great to get back on the track for what was an amazing day," Head Coach Mike Esposito said. "There was a lot of enthusiasm, and we are very pleased with what we saw, but we clearly have a lot of work to do."

The White squad won for the second consecutive year in a row with a point total of 233, Purple placed second with a total of 154, Black was third with a score of 115.5.

Chris Van Niekerk won all four of the male throwing events, taking home first in the hammer, shot put, discus, and javelin. The hammer and javelin were close affairs that showcased the depth in this category for the Panthers. Van Niekerk won the hammer with a mark of 48.78m while Anthony Villavicencio was right behind him with a throw of 48.28m. The men's javelin was tightly contested as well as Van Niekerk placed first with a mark of 57.55m, and 2019 Big South Outdoor Javelin champion Rob Greer placed second with a mark of 56.06m. Josh Brown and Wally Sample were involved in the action as well as Brown posted a mark of 49.69, and Sample posted a mark of 49.01m for fourth and fifth. (Many of the field events were conducted without full approaches.)

The women's pole vault featured a tremendous display of competition amongst Panther teammates as the action had to be decided by a jump-off. The final three were Sydney HornNathalie Elliot, and Mackenzie Horn each clearing a 3.80m. Sydney Horn took home first. Carter Clasper placed first in the men's pole vault after clearing 4.60m. All competing in the Pole vault on Friday night vaulted well on short approaches.

On Saturday, Deron Dudley shined as he posted a time of 21.28 in the 200m while running into a headwind. Famke Heinst finished first in one of the "feature" races of the day, the women's 800m. Heinst placed first with a time of 2:14.34 while Camryn Harper and Ashley Jones had a close battle for second as Harper finished with a time of 2:17.74, and Jones finished third with a time of 2:17.75.
