RALEIGH, N.C. – The High Point University men's track and field team traveled an hour east to N.C. State University for the Raleigh Relays which took place over the course of three days from March 26-28. The Panthers also competed at the Davidson Relays on Saturday March 28.
On Thursday, the Panthers had just three athletes compete in two events.
Caleb Barley competed in the shot put and placed 10th overall after throwing 16.90m on his second throw.
Avery Crowell and
Gavin Stevens both raced in the 5000m to round out the evening.
On Friday HPU kicked off the morning with the high jump.
Shaun Thomas tied for fifth with a 2.06m clear. Entering the competition at 1.96m, he cleared three straight bars on his first attempt as each bar increased by .03m.
Continuing in the field events,
Mobu Nwakor represented the Panthers in the triple jump and placed within the top 20 at 18th. He jumped 14.53m in the sand. Barley returned on Friday to throw in the discus and placed 21st overall with a 46.57m mark.
On the track Friday,
Dominiq Northington was the first to race, wearing the purple and white in the 110m hurdles. He placed 19th overall with a 14.59 time.
On Saturday, Allon Suggs Sweeney competed in the 400m hurdles and clocked a 55.42 time to finish 30th overall.
At the Davidson Relays on Saturday,
Prince Brockington placed seventh in the hammer throw with a new personal best 49.82m throw. Continuing the throwing events,
Drew Noblet threw a dagger in the javelin with a 65.86m throw for a new personal best to finish second overall.
Demetrio Lukaitis placed fifth with a 57.43m.
In the field events, Jason Olivera, Jr. won the pole vault with a 5.20m clear for his second consecutive event win in the outdoor season.
Jackson Tuomey placed third with a 5.05m clear.
In the mile,
Max Bonilla won the event clocking a 4:21.16 time followed by Nicholson with a 4:22.19 time for second place. Another freshman
Simon Triezenberg crossed in sixth place with a 4:25.78 time.
In the 110m hurdles,
Cole Wilson had the highest placement in third with a 14.83 time.
Nigel Steenwinkel placed seventh with a 15.17 time. Wilson and Steenwinkel later raced in the 400m and recorded a 50.47 time and a 50.09 time respectively.
Greg Abel had the best placement for the Panthers in the 800m in 10th overall with a 1:57.10 time.
