HIGH POINT, N.C.—The No. 20 High Point University women's lacrosse team takes on No. 14 Navy in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night (May 10) in Charlottesville, Va. First Draw from Klockner Stadium is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcasted live on ESNP3.
 
• The winner will face sixth-seeded Virginia in the second round on Sunday (May 12) at noon in Charlottesville.
 
• HPU earned an NCAA Tournament berth by way of defeating Winthrop, 17-10, in the Big South Tournament Championship on April 28 at Vert Stadium.
 
• The Panthers are making their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance (2013, 2014, 2017, 2018). HPU is 1-4 in the national tournament, with the win coming in 2017, a 21-15 win over Towson.
 
• High Point completed its third-consecutive season of going undefeated through the Big South regular season and tournament schedule. 
 
• Sophomore Abby Hormes has turned in one of, if not, the best offensive season in High Point history. She has broken single-season school records for points (102) and goals (65) and is tied for fifth in assists (37).
 
• The Fallston, Md., native has also tied Samantha Herman for the single-season school mark for draw controls with 79.
 
• Hormes' 102 points is the second-most in Big South Conference single-season history (record - 110, Nicole Beatson, Winthrop, 2018)
 
• The sophomore attacker ranks fourth in the nation in shot percentage (.613), seventh in points (102), 12th in goals (65) and 21st in assists (37).
 
• Hormes set the Big South Championship final record for points with 10 points and tied the final records for goals (6) and assists (4).
 
• Redshirt-junior Meredith Chapman was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
 
• Chapman, a defender from Apex, N.C., has 51 caused turnovers, a single-season HPU record, and ranks sixth in the NCAA with 2.63 caused turnovers per game.
 
• Chapman earned Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors after graduating from HPU with a degree in biology and a 3.95 cumulative GPA.
 
• Senior midfielder Samantha Herman is the all-time leader in draw controls at HPU with 228.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
• Navy leads the all-time series between the two programs, 2-1. Navy won the first meeting, 11-8, in High Point's inaugural season in 2011, before the Panthers won, 11-10, on Feb. 11, 2012. HPU's win in 2012 was the first for the program over a ranked opponent. Navy captured the latest matchup, 15-6, in 2013.
 
ON THE MIDSHIPMEN
• Navy is 15-4 on the season after falling to Loyola, 21-9, on May 4 in the Patriot League Championship final. Kelly Larkin leads the Midshipmen in points (112), goals (63) and assists (49).
