HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men's lacrosse team will begin Southern Conference (SoCon) play Friday, March 15, in Lexington, Va. against VMI. The opening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
 
All-Time Series with VMI
• The Panthers lead the series with the Keydets 5-0. High Point took a 16-7 win in Vert Stadium on April 13, 2018 in the last meeting between the teams.

• Sophomore Asher Nolting is tied for seventh in assists per game at 3.29 and ninth in the NCAA in points per game at 5.43.
 
• The Greenwood Village, Colo., native leads the SoCon in points per game and assists per game.
 
• Nolting native has scored at least two points in 20-straight games. He has logged 104 total points (45 goals, 59 assists) over that span.
 
• Senior Tim Troutner Jr. leads the Panthers in the cage and averages 12.86 saves per game, which is third in the conference and 14th in the nation.
 
• The Annapolis, Md. native is third in the SoCon and ranks 12th in the NCAA in save percentage at .566. He is also third in the league and 28th in the nation in goals against average at 10.55.
 
• Troutner is 12th in the NCAA in save percentage at .566 and 14th in saves per game at 12.86.
 
• Junior Davis Sampere leads the Panthers in the face-off X with a .568 percentage with 88 wins. He has the most wins in the SoCon and ranks second in face-off percentage.
 
• Sampere is 12th in the nation in ground balls per game at 8.00. His 15 ground balls were the ninth-most by an individual player in Division I this season.
 
• Sampere was named defensive player of the week March 12 after posting a program record 15 ground balls and a career-high 19 face-off wins.
 
• Senior Chris Young is tops on the team with 24 goals. He is first in the SoCon with 3.43 goals per game.
 
• Young scored four goals in each of the first two games of the 2019 season and added a third four-goal game against RMU. He has scored at least one goal in 19-straight games. The senior has scored 43 goals over that span.
 
• The Oakville, Ontario native set a career-high and program record with seven goals against UMBC.
 
• Young posts the second-best shot percentage in the NCAA at .686 and the sixth in goals per game at 3.43. His seven goals against UMBC tied for the seventh-most by an individual player in the NCAA this season.
 
•Junior Ben Baker set a career-high with four goals against UMBC March 9. He has four hat tricks on the year.
 
• The Panthers set program records with 37 points and 22 goals against UMBC March 9.
 
• HPU won a program record 31 face-offs against the Retrievers March 9.
 
• Davis Sampere picked up a single-game record 15 ground balls against UMBC March 9.
 
• Troutner was selected second overall by the Florida Launch in the MLL draft on March 9. He is the highest athlete in High Point history to be drafted in any sport.
 
• Young was drafted by the Ohio Machine with the first pick in the fourth round.
 
• The Panthers rank third in the NCAA in ground balls (40.57), sixth in scoring offense (14.57), 11th in caused turnovers (10.57) and points per game (21.43), seventh in scoring margin (4.00) and ninth in shot percentage (.329).
 
• HPU is 12th man-down defense (.769), tied for 17th in saves per game (13.43), 20th in clearing percentage (.851) and 24th in face-off winning percentage (.550).
 
• The Panthers posted the fifth-most points by any NCAA Division I team in a single game this season with 37 against UMBC.
 
• Nolting leads the conference in assists (3.29) and points per game (5.43).
 
• Sampere is tops in the SoCon in ground balls (8.00).  He is second in the league in faceoff percentage at .568.
 
• Troutner is third in the SoCon in save percentage (.566), goals against average (10.55) and saves per game (12.86).
 
• Young is tops in the SoCon in goals per game at 3.43 and fifth in points per game at 4.14.
 
• As a team, the Panthers lead the SoCon in ground balls (40.57), points per game (21.43), penalty killing percentage (.800), shot percentage (.329), man-down goals (0.29), shots on goal per game (27.00) and goals per game goals (14.57).
 
• HPU ranks second in face-off percentage (.550), third in caused turnovers (10.57), goals against average (10.34), assists (6.86) and fourth in saves per (13.43).
 
On the Keydets (3-2, 0-1)
• John Daniel leads VMI with 11 goals on the season.
 
• Ryan Perouty is tops on the team with 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists). His 2.40 assists per game are 16th in the NCAA and second in the SoCon.
 
• John O'Donnell is second on the team with five assists and third on the team with eight goals.
 
• Kyle Walsh leads the NCAA with 4.00 caused turnovers per game for VMI.
 
• AJ Krstulovic leads the Keydets in the face-off 'X' with a 39-78 record and a .500 percentage.
 
• Benjamin Stump mans the cage for VMI with 11.30 goals against average. He has a .580 save percentage, which is eighth in the NCAA. Stump is third in the NCAA with 15.20 saves per game.
 
• VMI leads the SoCon with 49.00 shots per game.
 
• As a team, the Keydets are second in the conference in shots on goal per game (25.00), save percentage (.571), saves per game (15.20), caused turnovers (11.60) and ground balls (34.00).
 
• Head coach Jon Birsner is in his fourth season at VMI. He has compiled a 9-39 record during his time in Lexington, Va.
