HIGH POINT, N.C.—The High Point University women's lacrosse team opens the 2018 season Saturday (Feb. 10) against Furman. First draw at Vert Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
 
Quick Hitters
• High Point was selected as the conference favorite in the Big South Preseason Poll. Senior Darla Poulin was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and senior Erica Perrotta was selected as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
 
• Four members of the HPU squad were named to the Preseason All-Big South Team - Perrotta, Poulin, senior Olivia Nostrant and sophomore Jill Rall.
 
• The Panthers are coming off of their best season in program history, when they swept the Big South regular season and tournament championships. HPU then won the school's first NCAA Division I Tournament game when it defeated No. 18 Towson.
 
• High Point set school records for wins (16), goals (314), assists (166), points (480), shots (711), shots on goal (516) and caused turnovers (245). HPU won 16 games in a row, which also was a school record.
 
• HPU ranked sixth in the nation in scoring offense (15.70 goals per game), fourth in assists per game (8.30), fourth in caused turnovers per game (12.25) and ninth in scoring margin (+5.40).
 
• Jill Rall started the last 16 games in goal for the Panthers and won her first 15 contests, which tied the school record for wins in a season.
 
• Darla Poulin ranked 34th in the country with 55 goals last season, while fellow senior Brooke Stevens ranked 46th in the nation in assists last season with 32.
 
• The Panthers have three returners who were in the nation's top 100 in points in 2017 - Darla Poulin with 79 (27th), Brooke Stevens with 70 (66th) and Erica Perrotta with 69 (73rd).
 
On the Paladins
• Furman was selected as the conference favorite in the inaugaral Southern Conference Preseason Poll.
 
• The Paladins finished 2017 with a 12-7 overall mark and 7-3 record in Atlantic Sun play, including an appearance in the ASUN semifinals.
  
All-Time Series with Furman
This will be the first-ever meeting between Furman and High Point in women's lacrosse.
 
Next Up
The Panthers host No. 3 North Carolina on Friday (Feb. 16). First draw at Vert Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m.
