Â
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's basketball team is riding a four-game winning streak as it welcomes Presbyterian to the Millis Center on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
Â
The Panthers (8-5) earned a hard-fought 58-45 victory at UNC Asheville to move to 2-0 in Big South action. Meanwhile, the Blue Hose (3-10, 0-2) are on the opposite end of the standings after falling 65-55 to Longwood on Saturday.
Â
Quick Hitters
•
Kat Harris is averaging 18.8 points per game hitting an incredible 22-of-39 (.564) of her three-point attempts in the Millis Center. Similarly, the senior is shooting 59.2 percent from the floor while adding 3.7 rebounds per home outing.
Â
• Including the flurry of victories to end the 2016-17 season, the Purple & White have won 12 of their last 13 regular season contests against Big South opponents.
Â
• The Panthers are on a four-game winning streak, which is the longest this year and longest since closing the 2016-17 regular season with four straight victories.
Â
•
Emma Bockrath - the reigning Big South Player of the Year - has scored in double figures 28 times in 40 career contests against Big South Conference foes.
Â
• During her first season as the team's main point guard,
Camryn Brown is second in the Big South and 87th nationally with a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Â
• High Point is dominating the turnover battle in its five home games this season. HPU is turning the ball over just 14.5 times per game while the team is forcing 20.7 miscues thanks to 11.2 steals per Millis Center outing.
Â
•
Jiselle Thomas - the reigning Big South Freshman of the Week - posted 13.5 points per game during her first week of league play.
Â
• The Panthers are 66-32 against conference foes under
DeUnna Hendrix. That's the second-best mark in the league during her tenure at High Point trailing only Liberty.
Â
• HPU is 36-15 in the Millis Center against conference opponents since Hendrix took charge on the sidelines.
Â
• The Panthers are looking to go 3-0 in league play for the second time during Hendrix's tenure. HPU's best start came in 2014-15 when the team won its first three league outings. However, as an assistant, Hendrix helped the Panthers open league play 9-0 in 2011-12.
Â
• HPU is the only Big South team with three players in the top-10 in scoring with Harris (5th), Brown (6th) and Bockrath (9th).
Â
• The Panthers lead the Big South in scoring (71.3/game) and three-point percentage (.403). The team ranks second in free three percentage (.717), steals (8.8/game) and assists (14.4/game).
Â
Sharpshooters Finding Their Strokes
• The Panthers lead the Big South and rank fifth nationally drilling 40.3 percent of their three-point attempts this season. Incredibly, that's 4.6 percent higher than that season when the team's 35.7 percent mark broke the program's single-season record.
Â
• The 40.3 percent mark trails only Charleston Southern's 2009-10 squad for the Big South single season record. That team hit 44.2 percent of its three-point attempts.
Â
• Harris and Brown are No. 1 and No. 3 in the Big South and rank among the top-50 nationally in three-point percentage. Harris' 44.3 percent mark ranks 28th while Brown's 43.1 clip sits at 40th.
Â
Defensive Learning Curve
Playing a more up-tempo defense under associate head coach
Heather Kearney, the Panthers are limiting opponents to 27 percent shooting from beyond the arc, but have shown a tendency to get in foul trouble. HPU ranks 345 out of 349 teams in fouls per game (23.2/game).
Â
Reserves Needed
• The Panthers are 7-1 when the bench outscores their opponent's reserves and 1-4 when that margin is reversed.
Â
• HPU averages a 27.9-17.0 edge in its wins and a 19.4-14.6 deficit in losses. Harris has accounted for 57 of the 73 bench points in the team's five losses.
Â
Bockrath's Record-Setting Pace
Bockrath already owns HPU's D-I consecutive starts record with 74 and has moved into the top-15 in the program's career rankings in points, rebounds and assists midway through her junior season.
Â
All-Time Series with Presbyterian
HPU claimed the first 10 meetings between the two programs. However, Presbyterian has nearly played the Panthers even over the last five years winning five of the last 11. The Blue Hose shocked the Purple & White last season besting No. 6 High Point 55-48 in the quarterfinals of the Big South Tournament despite being the No. 6 seed. Despite the recent success, PC has never won in the Millis Center dropping all 10 visits to the Triad.
Â
Scouting the Blue Hose
It's all about senior Cortney Storey for Presbyterian. The guard ranks second in the conference in scoring (15.5/game) while pacing the league in assists (5.3/game). In last year's three meetings between the two teams, Storey averaged 16.7 points and 5.3 assists per contest. PC is off coming off a 66-56 road setback at Longwood and is 3-10 overall with a 0-2 mark in Big South action.
Â
Matchup to Watch
Tuesday night's matchup pits High Point's efficient long-range attack against Presbyterian's long-range barrage. HPU is hitting a league-best 40.3 percent from beyond the arc while the Blue Hose pace the conference making 8.4 three's per game.
Â
