HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men's lacrosse team take on Providence at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.

The Panthers enter Saturday with a 2-4 record after falling at Virginia and at home to Robert Morris last week. Similarly, the Friars are coming off a 10-8 setback to Sacred Heart last Saturday.

Quick Hitters
• The Panthers fell behind early to the Colonials and could never quite catch up falling 9-7 in Vert Stadium on Saturday.

• Senior Cole Carns posted a season-best three points scoring two goals and dishing out his first assist of the season in the setback.

• Junior Connor Robinson continued his hot streak scoring multiple goals for the third straight game while taking over the team lead in goals scored (eight).

• Sophomore Tim Troutner Jr. made 11 stop in the cage while picking up three ground balls on the day.

• The Purple & White fell behind 5-1 after the first quarter and has been plagued by slow starts all season. The squad has been outscored 39-19 in the first half so far in 2017.

• Second half adjustments have been the saving grace for HPU. The team has outscored its opponents 20-13 in the third quarter. That number includes a 13-0 edge in the two wins over Georgetown (5-0) and Saint John's (8-0). However, it has been outscored 13-7 in the 3rd quarter of losses.

• Tim Troutner Jr. is seeing the ball well so far in 2017 making 13.00 saves per contest, which ranks second in the Southern Conference and seventh in the country.

• The HPU defense has been opportunistic causing 7.50 turnovers a game. Troutner (eight) and junior Terrell Sands (seven) lead the defense while four of Tanner Landstra's five caused turnovers came against HPU's last Big East foe.

• The Friars were tabbed to finish fifth in the 2017 Preseason Big East coaches poll. High Point has played the preseason No. 4 and No. 6 teams in the league beating both Georgetown and St. John's in Vert Stadium.

• Providence boasts two of the top defensive players in the Big East. Goalie Tate Boyce was a preseason all-conference selection and has stopped 60 percent of the shots he's faced on the year. Meanwhile, defenseman Jarrod Neumann is one of the best in the country and has already racked up nine caused turnovers on the year.

• Offensively, the Friars are paced by Brendan Kearns. The attackman's 3.00 goals per game average is good for 13th in the nation so far this spring.

All-Time Series with Providence
High Point is 1-0 all-time against the Friars with the win coming on March 12, 2016 in Vert Stadium.

All-Time against the Big East Conference
The Purple & White are 3-1 all-time against Big East foes. So far this season, both of High Point's victories have come against Big East squads. The Panthers bested Georgetown 9-3 and Saint John's 15-6 in Vert Stadium. The other win came against the Friars in 2016 while the loss came to Marquette in 2014.

Last Time They Met
The Friars visited the Triad on March 12, 2016 and allowed HPU to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. However, Providence fought back and scored with nine seconds left to fall by just one, 13-12. Connor Robinson chipped in with three points on the day (2g, 1a) while Michael LeClair added two goals.

Next Up
The Panthers open the Southern Conference slate with a trip to Lexington, Va. to take on the VMI Keydets on Friday at 7 p.m.
