HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men's lacrosse team opens its fifth season of NCAA competition at Duke on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Koskinen Stadium.

The Panthers finished the 2016 season with a 9-7 record, their third straight season with at least nine wins. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils (0-1) have already opened their season in an 11-10 setback to Southern Conference favorite Air Force.

• The Panthers are set to open their fifth season of NCAA competition. In their four previous season-openers, the Purple & White are 1-3.

• HPU wrapped up the 2016 regular season with a five-game winning streak prior to a setback to Richmond in the SoCon semifinals. The last regular season loss for the Panthers came on March 27, 2016 at Richmond.

• The Purple & White produced a 6-1 record in Vert Stadium last year by winning their final six home games of the season. However, the team managed just three wins in seven tries on the road. Those three wins did include a road win over a ranked ACC foe, though, as HPU bested Virginia 12-11 in overtime in Charlottesville, Va. on Feb. 23, 2016.

• Slowing Duke's offense will be the key for High Point because the Blue Devils has scored at least 16 goals in each of the previous three meetings.

• While Friday is the season opener for the Panthers Duke has already played a contest this season. The Blue Devils opened their 2017 campaign with an 11-10 setback to defending Southern Conference champion Air Force on Feb. 5.

• Justin Guterding, Jack Bruckner and
Michael LeClair, represent three of the top 15 active scorers in the nation will be on the Koskinen Stadium turf on Friday night. Despite being a junior, Guterding leads the trio with 141 points while Bruckner (132) and LeClair (131) follow close behind.

All-TIme Series with Duke
• The Panthers and the Blue Devils have met three times prior to Friday night's showdown with Duke winning all three meetings. This is the third time HPU has visited Koskinen Stadium falling 17-6 each time.

• When High Point hosted Duke in 2015, the contest was tied at 13-all with seven minutes left before the Blue Devils went on to win 16-13.

Dan Lomas opened the scoring but Duke responded with a 14-3 run, which led to a 17-6 victory.

High Point is one of 12 programs in the nation to win at least nine games in each of the past three years. The Panthers join the likes of Albany, Army, Denver, Duke, Fairfield, Maryland, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Saint Joseph's, Syracuse and Yale.
