Panthers Host Flames in Tuesday Night Tussle

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team returns to the Millis Center to entertain Liberty on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
 
The Panthers (13-6, 6-0) are off to their best start in league play since 2008 after sweeping Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb in last week's action. That team opened conference play with nine straight victories.

The Redhead is Red Hot
• Junior Molly Livingston has recorded 36 kills on 60 attack attempts since her last attack error (.600) over the last four-plus matches.
 
• Overall, the Sun Prairie, Wis. product has 69 kills and just eight errors in Big South play.
 
Streaks!
• The Panthers' eight straight wins is the third-longest streak in the program's Division I era behind the 2009 team winning 11 straight and the 2007 squad claiming 10 in a row.

• High Point has won 14 straight sets, which is two short of the D-I program record shared by the 2009 and 2015 teams.

• The 14 straight set wins for HPU ties the team with Stanford for the third-longest active streak behind Texas State and American (15 sets).
 
• Over the last seven-plus matches the squad has won 23 of the last 25 sets.
  
All Over the Conference Leaderboard
• The Purple & White lead the Big South during conference play in hitting percentage, opponent hitting percentage, assists, kills and aces.
 
• Livingston leads the league in attack percentage (.452) in league action while freshman Abby Bottomley paces the conference with 5.25 digs per frame in Big South matches.
 
Road Warriors Coming Home
• High Point is 7-1 in true road matches in 2017 with the only loss coming in a five-set contest at UNCG.
 
• The Big South schedule put HPU on the road for five of their first six matches, all of which the Panthers won dropping just two of the 17 sets.
 
• The Panthers are 13-3 in the Millis Center against Big South foes over the last three regular seasons.
 
Raising the Bar
• The Panthers are hitting .240 on the year, which is .016 better than the 2012 team that currently holds the program's single-season mark.
 
• Only two HPU squads have averaged more than the 1.65 aces per set from the Panthers this fall.
 
• Livingston is on pace to blow past Lindsay Raus' single-season attack percentage record of .324 boasting a .380 mark so far this fall.
 
Movin' On Up
After showing up at No. 65 in the first RPI ranking of the season, the Panthers have moved up 10 spots to No. 55 this week.

Last Time They Met
The Purple & White opened Big South play with a 3-1 win in Lynchburg, Va. on Tuesday, Sept. 19 behind 35 digs from Bottomley. On the attack, junior Katie Tylman (18 kills) and Livingston (17 kills) combined for 35 kills while post hit over .370 on the night.
 
Scouting the Flames
After the setback to High Point, Liberty ran off three straight five-set victories over Presbyterian, UNC Asheville and Radford. However, the Flames cooled off on Friday in a 3-0 loss to Campbell. Sophomore Anna Gragg has come on is Big South play averaging 3.05 kills per set while hitting .420 to go with 0.82 blocks per set.

The Panthers remain at home this weekend to entertain UNC Asheville on Saturday, Oct. 14.
