HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University volleyball kicks off Big South Conference play on Friday, September 25, welcoming Radford University to the Millis Center for a 6:00 p.m. matchup.
 
A season ago, High Point finished the Big South Conference with a league record of 12-2 to win the Big South regular-season. The Panthers registered seven sweeps during the regular-season before sweeping Radford and UNC Asheville in the Big South Tournament to win the programs third straight Big South title and sixth overall.

The Matchup
The Panthers are 38-20 against the Highlanders with this being the 59th meeting between the two teams. In 2025, HPU swept Radford in all three meetings, including the Big South Championship semifinals in High Point.
 
The Highlanders are led by Addison Cunnagin on the attack, averaging 2.91 kills per set and 3.30 points per set on a .239 hitting percentage. Lea Gage, the teams setter recently surpassed 1000 career assists and averages 7.98 assists per set. Radford is coached by Savannah Hammond who enters her third season at the helm.

Weekend Recap: 
High Point defeated Wofford and NC A&T last week in the High Point Invitational. HPU swept Wofford 3-0 in the home opener and took NC A&T to five sets to win 3-2 over the Aggies. Against Wofford, HPU was led by Maya Bukovcan with 14 kills on a .560 hitting percentage in the middle. Aisha Keric had a career night with 12 kills on the right side to hit .320 and Gabby Hill joined in double figures with 10 kills of her own, hitting .474 to help High Point boast a .305 hitting percentage as a team. A highlight of the night was Remy Catojo's 34 assists which led to her eclipsing her 1000th career assist at High Point, just nine games into her sophomore season. Against NC A&T, Hill led the team with a career night, achieving 23 kills on 38 attacks, to boast a .526 hitting percentage. Keric posted another career-night in back-to-back games, putting down 15 kills with a .379 hitting percentage. 
 

Notable player & team notes:

Hill and Catojo Voted Big South Players of the Week (9/21):
Gabby Hill picked up her first Player of the Week award after having a career weekend averaging 4.13 kills per set on a .509 hitting percentage. She posted a career-high 23 kills with a .526 hitting percentage in the win over NC A&T and added 10 kills in the sweep over Wofford.
 
Remy Catojo was named the Setter of the Week and helped guide the HPU offense setting up her teammates with 83 assists to average 10.38 per set. Her 49 assists versus NC A&T were a new season-high as she contributed three kills, six digs and a block. Against Wofford she had a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs. Her 34 assists helped her reach her 1000th career assist just nine games into her sophomore season.

Michella Chester's Week Two Starting Rotation:
Maya Bukovcan was picked to Michella Chester's Week Two Starting Rotation after averaging 3.43 kills per set and 1.57 blocks per set.

Big South Weekly Awards (8/31): 
The Big South Conference announced the first week of volleyball Player of the Week awards following the opening weekend of the 2026 season. High Point University was awarded two awards as Maya Bukovcan was named the Player of the Week and Remy Catojo was named Setter of the Week. 

Pre-Season Polls:  
The Big South Conference announced the 2026 Preseason Women's Volleyball All-Conference Awards and Preseason Poll on Wednesday afternoon. The High Point University volleyball team was unanimously voted the preseason favorite by the Big South head coaches after winning the 2025 Big South Tournament, making it the Panthers 10th consecutive season being voted No. 1. 

Along with being voted the preseason favorite, four HPU student-athletes were named to the All-Conference selection including, Élodie Lalonde, Maya Bukovcan, Remy Catojo, and Addison Freeland. Lalonde was named the Big South Preseason Player of the Year and Remy Catojo was voted the Big South Preseason Co-Setter of the Year along with USC Upstate's Kamyla Vega David. 

Last Season:  
The Panthers won the programs 6th conference title and third straight conference title earning a bid in the NCAA Tournament. High Point would go on to lose to Kansas in three sets in their only match in the tournament.
