HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University men's lacrosse team wraps up its three-game homestand on Saturday at noon against Jacksonville in Vert Stadium.
The Panthers (6-5, 2-2) have won their last two games by a combined score of 28-17 to rebound from a two-game losing streak. On the other hand, the Dolphins earned a win over VMI over the weekend to end a six-game losing streak.
Last Time Out
Nine different Panthers tallied a goal as High Point earned a 13-7 victory over Bellarmine on Saturday afternoon. The Knights tied the score at 6-all with three minutes left in the third quarter before the Purple & White went on a 7-1 run to close out the contest.
Offensively,
Michael LeClair paced the Panthers with three goals and two assists while
Matt Thistle added three goals and an assist. On the other side,
Tim Troutner Jr. racked up 16 saves in goal while holding Bellarmine to one goal in the last 18 minutes.
HPU controlled possession as
Alex Woodall went 16-23 on face-offs while grabbing six ground balls. The Panthers earned a 31-23 edge in ground balls as
Adam Seal picked up three and also scored his first goal of 2016.
Dan Lomas was the third Panther to notch multiple points with two goals and an assist. Meanwhile,
Tyler Cook,
Dallas Bridle,
Connor Robinson,
Peyton Garrett and
Jake Schleppy notched the squad's other goals.
LeClair's Streak
• As a freshman, LeClair posted a point in three of his first seven games, but has scored in every one since then (37 straight).
• The streak is the longest in HPU history passing Lomas' streak (32).
• The 37-game streak is the eighth-longest active streak nationally.
• LeClair has scored a goal in 10 consecutive contests while
Dan Lomas owns the longest active goal-scoring streak with 11 games.
Lomas a Finalist for Senior CLASS Award
Dan Lomas was selected as one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, the first finalist in program history.
Three-Headed Attack
• The trio of
Dan Lomas,
Matt Thistle and
Michael LeClair has accounted for 381 points of HPU's 693 points (55 percent) the last two years.
• All three were among top-five scorers in 2015 and have continued to shine. LeClair is second in the SoCon with 3.4 points per game while Thistle (3.2/game) is third and Lomas (2.9/game) is fourth.
Scouting Jacksonville
The Dolphins snapped a six-game skid on Saturday with a 14-2 home win over VMI. The squad was picked to finish seventh in the Southern Conference after placing sixth in 2015 with a 1-5 conference mark.
Sophomore Shawn Ewert leads the JU offensive attack with 23 points on the year. The sophomore is the distributor with 16 assists already in 2016. Meanwhile, senior Dakota Rohlin has 14 goals to lead all scorers while junior Mitchell Parker is one behind with 13 on the spring.
In goal, sophomore Ben Gleichenhaus is third in the conference with a .558 save percentage despite allowing 11.15 goals per game. He's been an ironman for the squad playing all but three minutes this year. Sophomore Hunter Forbes is second in the SoCon in face-off percentage .577 (105-182). Similarly, he leads the league with 5.75 ground balls per contest.

The Panthers hold a 3-1 lead in the series, however prior to last season's 9-6 win, the first three meetings between the two programs were decided by one goal.

• HPU used a 4-0 over the final 9:13 to erase a 6-5 deficit and come away with a 9-6 victory at Jacksonville on April 4, 2015.
