HPU renews rivalry with Davidson Friday

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's lacrosse team (3-2) renews its rivalry with former conference foe Davidson (2-2) on Friday night in Richardson Stadium.

First draw between the Panthers and Wildcats is set for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the A-10 Network ($), with live stats also available via davidsonwildcats.com.

The Panthers are currently riding a three-game winning streak and will to make it four in a row Friday.

The Purple & White are coming off a 12-7 win at Oregon on Monday. HPU led by a goal (7-6) at the half, but overpowered Oregon with a 5-1 margin in the second half to pick up the Panthers' third-straight win. The Ducks posted just a single goal over the final 18:58 of action.

The Panther defense pestered the Ducks all night long, led by a fabulous performance from freshman Molly Andrews. The Sayville, N.Y., native made a career-best 13 saves while allowing just seven goals in a full 60 minutes in the cage. It marked Andrews' second game with at least 10 saves this season.

BROWN BREAKING OUT FOR THE PURPLE & WHITE
Samantha Brown showed flashes of her potential at the end of the 2015 campaign, scoring 15 of her 36 points over the final three games last season. That potential has turned into a consistent force in 2016, as the junior leads HPU in assists (8) and points (20) and is tied for the team lead in goals. Brown has posted at least six points in two of five games and is 7-of-8 (.875) from the free position this season.

SHUT IT DOWN LATE
Over the past two games, High Point has impressively held its opponent scoreless over the final 17+ minutes of the game. On March 2 vs. Villanova, HPU held the Wildcats scoreless over the final 17:43 and posted the final three goals of the game to erase a 9-7 deficit and claim the victory. In Monday's victory over Oregon, HPU allowed just one second half goal and held the Ducks scoreless over the final 18:36.

HISTORY vs. DAVIDSON
Friday's meeting will mark the ninth all-time meeting between High Point and Davidson in women's lacrosse. HPU holds a 7-1 advantage in the all-time series, including a 3-1 edge at Davidson. The two teams played seven of their eight previous contests as conference rivals in the NLC and then the Big South before the Wildcats left for the Atlantic 10 in 2015. HPU defeated Davidson in the 2013 and 2014 Big South Championship games to advance to the NCAA Tournament. Last season, HPU won 9-7 inside Vert Stadium behind three points a piece from Erica Perrotta (2g, 1a) and Samantha Brown (1g, 2a).

A LOOK AT THE WILDCATS (2-2, 0-0 Atlantic 10)
Davidson was picked to finish seventh out of 10 teams in the 2016 Atlantic 10 preseason poll. The Wildcats own a road win over Kennesaw State (19-6) and home victory over Holy Cross (8-7). Davidson fell to Virginia Tech (9-8) and Winthrop (8-5).

The Wildcats are led senior attack Emma Sissman, who leads the team with 12 goals and 14 draw controls. Sophomore attack Christine Molinari paces the team in assists (8) and also has chipped in 12 points on the year. Sophomore goalkeeper Rose Woolson has played 150 of a possible 240 minutes in cage and has posted an 8.80 goals against average and .800 save percentage.

High Point returns to action Sunday with a home contest against Big Ten foe Michigan (4-3). First draw inside Vert Stadium is scheduled for noon.
