HPU and Virginia Tech clash Sunday

Live Stats

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's lacrosse team takes on its second ACC opponent in as many weeks Sunday, when the Panthers travel to Blacksburg, Va., to take on Virginia Tech.

First draw between the Panthers and Hokies is scheduled for 2 p.m. No live stream is available for the game but fans can follow @hpuwlax on Twitter for in-game updates.

HPU FEATURES BALANCED GROUP OF STARTERS
The Panthers started two freshmen, a sophomore, two juniors and seven seniors against No. 2 North Carolina in the 2016 opener. In addition, five freshmen and a pair of sophomores played the majority of the minutes off the bench for the Purple & White. The Panthers are built for a championship now, but also have the pieces to continue the program's winning tradition for seasons to come.

HISTORY vs. VIRGINIA TECH
High Point and Virginia Tech have played every year in HPU's program history. The Hokies hold a 3-2 lead in the all time series, although HPU has captured two of the past three meetings. In last season's matchup, High Point earned a 10-6 victory inside Vert Stadium on Feb. 20, 2015. Current Panthers Leah Pace, Erica Perrotta, Allie Foard and Samantha Brown each posted two goals in the victory. Then senior goalie Julia Burns made a program-record 15 saves against the Hokies.

A LOOK AT THE HOKIES (3-2, 0-0 ACC)
Virginia Tech has already played five games in 2016 and holds a 3-2 record. The Hokies earned victories over Big South programs Gardner-Webb (18-1) and Liberty (7-4), as well as a win over Davidson (9-8).

Virginia Tech is led by sophomore midfielder Tristan McGinley, who leads the Hokies with 14 points on nine goals and five assists. Senior attack Jessie Thon has chipped in 10 points (9g, 1a). Senior defender Meghan Macera leads the team with 15 caused turnovers, 19 ground balls and 20 draw controls.

Senior Hannah Sieger has played all 240 minutes in cage and has made 23 saves while allowing 10.75 goals per game.
