GREENSBORO, N.C. – The High Point University men's golf team opened its spring season falling 8.5 to 1.5 in the Carolina Cup against UNCG at the Grandover Resort East Course on Saturday.
"They're one of the top 50 teams in the nation for a reason and they played well," head coach
Greg Flesher said. "UNCG's short game was better than ours and that is something we need to work to improve as the season goes on."
The freshmen duo of
Emile Menard and
Pureun Kim earned a point for the Panthers by besting UNCG's Luke Haithcock and Roy Dixon in a best ball match.
Kim also earned a half point for tying Dixon in match play. He was one of many HPU golfers who came up just short of winning their match.
"I'm thrilled with Pureun's play today as he finished under par," Flesher said. "He is really starting to come around in his freshman season and is playing with the confidence that made him one of the best high school golfers in the country last year."
The Purple & White will be back in action on spring break weekend when the team heads to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to take part in the Bash at the Beach on March 8-10.
