Live VideoHIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team has won 11 of its last 12 matches heading into a Big South tussle with Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. on Friday.
The Panthers (16-7, 6-1) are one win away from equaling the program's best start in Big South play. Meanwhile, the Camels (9-12, 3-4) are gaining steam after winning their last four outings.
Last Time Out:Fall break didn't allow for rest for the Purple & White as they traveled to Charleston Southern on Tuesday evening for a makeup match. The Panthers jumped on the Bucs early taking the first two sets (25-17 and 25-19). However, CSU came out hot in the third set and took a 16-8 lead before HPU stormed back to win the frame 25-23.
Sophomore
Haley Barnes starred on both sides of the net posting her 12th double-double of the year with 14 kills and 12 digs. As she has all year, senior
Annemarie Chin anchored the defense with 20 digs to average 6.67 digs per set in the match. In the middle, redshirt-junior
Savannah Angel and freshman
Molly Livingston combined for eight total blocks on the night.
Scouting the Camels:Campbell opened conference action with four straight loses before besting CSU, Presbyterian and Winthrop in its last three contests to get to 3-4. Like HPU, the Camels recorded a midweek sweep, theirs against N.C. Central, to extend their winning streak to four matches.
Offensively, seven players average better than 1.40 kills per set with senior Katelyn Layden leading the way (2.14 kills/set). On the other side of the net, senior Mary Crema is sixth in the conference with 4.49 digs per set while junior Jenny Tait is eighth in the league with 0.90 blocks per set. The Camels are a dangerous team at the service line with 1.62 aces per set this season.
Last Time They Met:The Panthers hosted the Camels in a 5-set thriller in the Millis Center to open league action on Sept. 25. HPU earned the win behind a great night from the offense led by senior
Gabi Mirand. The setter racked up 56 assists as the Purple & White recorded 68 kills on a .218 attack percentage.
In that match, the Panthers fell behind 2-sets-to-1, but came back behind an 18-kill, 11-dig performance from Barnes. Meanwhile, the squad's freshman middle blockier duo of Livingston and
Jordan Hefner combined for 23 kills and 10 total blocks while collectively posting a .475 hitting percentage.
Panther Notes:• HPU and Campbell have played seven common opponents with the Panthers going 6-1 against those teams while the Camels have gone 4-3.
• The team has won 11 of its last 12 matches, the best stretch in
Jason Oliver's tenure as head coach.

• As a team, the Panthers are also leading the Big South and rank fourth in the nation with 17.38 digs per frame.
