No. 19 – Women's basketball wins at Liberty, again
FULL STORY
On Jan. 17, 2013 the High Point University women's basketball team made history with a win over Liberty at the Vines Center. HPU led the entire game en route to a 71-63 victory. With the win, the Panthers became the first Big South team to defeat Liberty at the Vines Center in back-to-back years since UNC Greensboro posted four straight wins at the Vines Center between 1993-94 and 1996-97.
The day that ended in celebration started with a scramble as the Panthers rushed to leave High Point two hours earlier than planned due to snow in the forecast. The game, originally planned for 7 p.m. would now be played at 5 p.m. and the Panthers were rushing to get on the bus.
Once in Lynchburg, Va., the Panthers didn't let the schedule change affect them, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes. HPU led the entire game and became the first team to beat Liberty at the Vines Center in back-to-back years in 16 years.Â
Junior
Tayler Tremblay had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and graduate student
Kendra Wallace had a season-high 18 points.
"I am so proud of this team," said head coach
DeUnna Hendrix after the game. "We showed a lot of resiliency and didn't let the weather and the time change get in our heads. We competed for 40 minutes and got contributions from every single player. We played great defense, especially
Lexi Patterson who guarded Devon Brown and had a great night."
Tremblay had a season-high 11 rebounds to go with 16 points, two assists and one steal. Wallace led the Panthers with 18 points. Redshirt-sophomore
Stacia Robertson added 13 points.
