March 31, 2012 – Dane McDermott's diving catch featured on ESPN SportsNation

Dane McDermott made a diving catch in right-center field in the ninth inning against VMI on March 31 that was impressive enough to be featured on ESPN SportsNation. But the catch meant a lot more to HPU pitcher Matt Armstead.

Armstead had retired 13 batters in a row heading in to the ninth inning and the Panthers clung to a 2-0 lead. VMI's George Piccirilli led off the ninth inning and sent a ball toward the Panther's Den in right-center field that seemed destined for extra bases. But McDermott tracked down the ball, preserving the retired batter streak and preventing the game-tying run from coming to the plate.

McDermott's catch was featured on SportsNation on Monday afternoon. In the 2-0 win over VMI McDermott also had an RBI single and threw out a batter at the plate in the win.
