Junior captain Julie Hershkowitz (Scottsdale, Ariz., Seton Catholic) became High Point's all-time digs leader with 1,409 career digs in Saturday's 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 20-25, 27-29) loss to Big South rival Winthrop at the Millis Center. Hershkowitz had 27 digs in the match to pass Lauren Hatch as High Point's career digs leader.

“It was a great night for Julie,” said head coach Jason Oliver. “Breaking the record is a testament to her competitiveness and character and she is everything you want out of a libero. Her work ethic is second to none and I hope she continues to set the bar high for this program.”

Junior middle blocker Stephanie Wallin (Plymouth, Minn., Robbinsdale Armstrong) had a career-high 19 kills to go with three blocks in the loss and sophomore setter Holly Fong (Sebastopol, Calif., El Molino) put up 33 assists.

High Point took the first set 25-17 with five kills from Wallin and three from senior captain Megan Kaminskas (Flagstaff, Ariz., Flagstaff). Freshman Molly Barlow (Phoenix, Ariz., Seton Catholic) had a service ace to put HPU up 18-12 and forcing a Winthrop timeout but the Panthers kept rolling after the break, extending their lead to 22-14 on a block by Fong and Kaminskas. High Point finished the set with a kill from Wallin for the 25-17 win.

In the second set Winthrop forced seven High Point attack errors and held the Panthers to a .051 attack percentage. The Eagles took the frame 25-21.

Wallin put up five kills and two blocks in the third set but Winthrop outhit the Panthers .282 to .125 and won the third set 25-20 and took a 2-1 set advantage.

The Panthers battled back in the fourth set, taking a 22-20 lead late in the set. The Eagles tied the set at 23 with a service ace by Kaley Viola. Both teams battled, trading points to a 27-27 tie on a kill from Barlow but Voila answered with a kill of her own and HPU committed an attack error to give Winthrop the 29-27 set win.

The Panthers (9-8, 0-2 BSC) hit the road Tuesday for a Big South match at Radford at 7 p.m.
