The High Point University volleyball team improved to 15-14 (4-8 BSC) with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-12) win over Winston-Salem State Tuesday at the Millis Center. The Panthers outhit the Rams .354 to -.053 for the match and High Point had 11 service aces in the win.
“I was impressed with our serving effort tonight,” said head coach
Jason Oliver. “The support and overall chemistry of everyone on the team is something to build on heading in to our conference games this weekend.”
Freshmen outside hitters
Courtney Johnk (Larkspur, Calif., Redwood) and
Molly Barlow (Phoenix, Ariz., Seton Catholic) led the team with five kills each. Johnk also added one block assist and Barlow four digs, one service ace and a block assist. Freshman setter
Stephanie Kaminskas (Flagstaff, Ariz., Flagstaff) had a match-high 17 assists.
High Point took the first set 25-8 before Oliver went to his bench in the second set. Barlow and
Jamie McDonald (Shoreline, Wash., Shorecrest) each had three kills in the second set as HPU won the frame 25-11.
The Panthers took set three 25-12 with
Caroline Miler (Summerville, SC, Pinewood Prep),
Megan Kaminskas (Flagstaff, Ariz., Flagstaff) and Barlow each contributing two kills.
Senior captain
Tara Dyer (Fountain Hills, Ariz., Fountain Hills) came up with eight digs as she played the second and third set in the libero position.
High Point hosts Gardner-Webb Friday at 7 p.m. and UNC Asheville Saturday at 2 p.m. Saturday will be Senior Day for HPU and
Lyndsay Rowley (New Albany, Ohio, New Albany), Miler, Kaminskas and Dyer will be honored before the game.
