The High Point University volleyball team swept North Carolina A&T 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-15) Tuesday in Greensboro, N.C. to improve to 10-10 (0-4 Big South) on the season. Sophomore
Breanna Holliday (Hendersonville, N.C., West Henderson) had a career-high four service aces and
Megan Smith (Bellbrook, Ohio, Bellbrook) had a match-high 14 kills. Senior
Megan Kaminskas (Flagstaff, Ariz., Flagstaff) had one solo block and four block assists in the match.
“It is good to get back on the right track,” said head coach
Jason Oliver. “We played focused the entire match which is something we haven't been able to do lately. It is good to see some players get in there and execute our system and our identity.”
With a 14-7 lead in the first set the first, the Panthers put up four straight blocks to extend their lead to 18-7.
Megan Kaminskas had three block assists and one solo block and
Stephanie Wallin (Plymouth, Minn., Robbinsdale Armstrong) had two block assists in the set. HPU went on to win the set 25-12 with six kills from Smith.
The second set started much closer, with the scored tied 8-8 early in the frame. It was once again the HPU defense that took control of the set, with Wallin and Kaminskas putting up the block to give the Panthers a lead they would not relinquish. Freshmen
Courtney Johnk (Larkspur, Calif., Redwood) and
Jamie McDonald (Shoreline, Wash., Shorecrest) came off the bench to combine for four kills in the 25-17 set win.
The Panthers got the sweep with a 25-15 win in the third set. HPU held the Aggies to a -.133 attack percentage and put down 10 team kills to A&T's five.
The Panthers are on the road for two Big South contests this weekend, facing UNC Asheville Friday at 7 p.m. and Gardner-Webb on Saturday at 4 p.m.
