Box Score BOX SCORE

High Point lost a tough five-set battle at Presbyterian College Saturday 2-3 (24-26, 25-23, 32-34, 25-16, 10-15). Sophomore setter Holly Fong (Sebastopol, Calif., El Molino) had 50 assists and junior middle blocker Stephanie Wallin (Plymouth, Minn., Robbinsdale Armstrong) had a team-high 17 kills and .371 attack percentage. Wallin was one of three Panther attackers with double-digit kills with Megan Smith (Bellbrook, Ohio, Bellbrook) adding 15 and Courtney Johnk (Larkspur, Calif., Redwood) 10.

The Panthers lost a close first set 24-26. No team took more than a two point lead in the set and the score was tied nine times. Wallin put down two consecutive kills to give the Panthers a 22-21 lead but Presbyterian's Lisa Shelley answered with back-to-back kills of her own to put the Blue Hose back up 23-22. With the score again knotted at 24, Allison Brown had a kill for the Blue Hose and an HPU attack error gave Presbyterian the first set 26-24. Wallin had eight kills in the set and Julie Hershkowitz (Scottsdale, Ariz., Seton Catholic) and Molly Barlow (Phoenix, Ariz., Seton Catholic) each had seven digs.

High Point rebounded, winning the second set 25-23. Senior captain Megan Kaminskas (Flagstaff, Ariz., Flagstaff) had three kills and Johnk came off the bench with four kills and two blocks. HPU was down 13-8 in the set before going on a five-point run to tie the set at 13-13. The teams traded the lead to a 19-19 tie before the Panthers took control. A Megan Smith kill gave HPU a 21-20 lead and Johnk extended the lead to 23-21 with her fourth kill of the set. HPU got an attack error from Presbyterian and Wallin sealed the set with her 10th kill of the match.

It took 34 points to decide a winner in the third set but the Blue Hose came out on top 34-32. A kill from Wallin tied the set at 25-25, but the frame would see seven more ties before Presbyterian would get the winning service ace from Amanda Kettles. Wallin had five kills in the set and Smith and Johnk each had three.

High Point jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the fourth set, getting three straight blocks from Wallin, Smith and Anna Lott (Lincoln, Neb., Lincoln Northeast) and a service ace from Megan Kaminskas. After a Presbyterian timeout Lott put up a solo block to extend HPU's lead to 13-5. With a 23-16 lead Smith put down back-to-back kills to give the Panthers the 25-16 set win and forcing a fifth set. High Point capitalized on 11 Blue Hose errors in the frame and the Panthers outhit Presbyterian .400 to .000.

Presbyterian outhit the Panthers .333 to .200 to win the fifth set 15-10 and the match 3-2.

The Panthers (9-10, 0-4 Big South) head to Greensboro, N.C. Tuesday for a non-conference match with North Carolina A&T at 6 p.m.
