Box Score Jurica Hargraves led a group of six players who scored in double figures as the High Point University women's basketball team defeated Emory & Henry, 125-45, on Sunday afternoon at the Millis Athletic Center. The Panthers set a new school Division I scoring record as well as a record for number of points scored in the Millis Center.
Hargraves posted 21 points on 10-of-12 from the field for the Panthers (1-1). Freshman Shamia Brown added 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Tedi McKoy talled 17 points while grabbing eight boards. Mackenzie Maier had 15 points and two blocks in the contest, while LaTeisha Dean notched the first double-double of her career with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Amy Dodd rounded out the double digit scoring with 12 points. Sophomore Frances Fields had a game-high nine assists, setting a new career record.
For the Wasps (0-1) Kayla Blackstock had 11 points. Sarah Petty pulled down a team-high four rebounds while posting eight assists.
The Panthers took control of the game from the opening tip and held a double digit lead at the 12:34 mark, up 11 off a pair of charity shots from McKoy. High Point went on several run in the first half and held its largest lead of the opening period up by 42 (61-19) off a jumper from Whitney Tarver going into the break. High Point took its largest lead of the contest off a layup from Brown with 5:36 remaining to go on top by 80 (114-34).
HPU also set a Division I record for number of field goals made and number of field goals attempted with 49 and 85, respectively.
The Panthers shot 53.3-percent from the field and went 11-of-14 from the charity stripe for 85.7-percent. High Point also shot 55.6-percent from three point range on 5-of-9.
High Point will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the University of Arkansas. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. central time, 8:00 p.m. eastern.
