HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University's
Chana Paxixe has been named a Kay Yow Servant Leader ahead of the 2025-26 women's basketball season.
During the 2025-26 season, she will wear a Kay Yow Servant Leader Patch on her jersey which embodies the character traits of Kay Yow – uplifting, powerful, drawing and giving strength.
"I started crying when coach told me," Paxixe said. "I just want to show support, smiles, and a little bit of love. I'm not doing this for me; I do this for the people around me."
Paxixe is the teammate and friend that everyone should aspire to be. She holds herself to a high standard to be there for others and not making it all about herself.
"When I was told about this award, there was one player that came to mind and that was Chana," HPU Head Coach
Chelsea Banbury said. "She is literally the most selfless, most energetic player that I have ever coached and I thought she was perfect for this nomination. I couldn't be more excited that she was recognized for this. She is truly a servant leader!"
In the game of basketball, Paxixe portrays this characteristic in her style of play. Always taking charges, either on offense or defense. Putting her body on the line and leaving it all on the hardwood floor. It's a 'we over me' mentality for No. 5 when she is on the court.
During her time on the floor last season, she was a leader. Bringing good vibes in every situation, either in the locker room pregame or on the long bus ride home.
Paxixe was named the Big South Jersey Mikes Player of the Game following the win over Longwood in the Big South Championship game. The stats may not always show on a box score, but with Paxixe on your roster, she will make everyone around her better in more ways than none.
Recipients of the Servant Leader Award are people of great character who put the needs of others before their own, who uplift others, and who do it with grace and humility. They are nominated by their coach and are people who exemplify Coach Yow's spirit and who reflect her resolve, grace, generosity, and servant's heart. Winners display courage and strength, and their first response is to give to others. They are people who have or will make an impact in the fight against cancer – improving lives and giving hope.
Paxixe will look to continue making an impact on those around her as she will wear the Kay Yow patch with pride during the 2025-26 season.
