High Point spoiled Radford volleyball's senior day on Saturday afternoon, posting a 3-1 (30-20, 21-30, 30-28, 30-26) Big South Conference win over the Highlanders at the Dedmon Center.

High Point improved to 20-7 overall and 6-3 in Big South play with the victory. The win allowed the Panthers to reach 20 wins in a season for the first time in the program's NCAA Division I history and the first time since winning 26 matches in 1996. With six league wins, HPU also matched the program high for conference victories established last season. Radford falls to 8-19 and 3-7 in conference following their third straight defeat.

Junior Ashley Mellott led all players with 23 kills while hitting .340. Fellow junior Lindsay Raus had 15 kills and hit .324. Senior Ashley Johnson and freshman Stephanie Wallin each tallied 12 kills with Wallin connecting at a team best .455 clip. Sophomore Audie Gonzalez added 10 kills and a match-high 27 digs for 15th double-double of the season. Junior setter Kristina Taylor also nabbed a double-double finishing with 63 assists, two aces and 17 digs. Freshman Julie Hershkowitz had 15 digs while junior Lauren Hatch and sophomore Tara Dyer had 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

Sophomore Alexis Miller and freshman Maggie Wagner each had 17 kills to lead RU. Miller hit .552 and Wagner .349 for the match as the Highlanders finished with their best hitting performance off the season in Big South play at .236.

"We had good offensive production tonight," said HPU head coach Chad Esposito. "The first game really set the tone for us in the match. It was a great team effort especially on the defensive side. We are excited to get our 20th win this year and I'm very proud of how we bounced back after Friday's disappointment and get back on the winning track with an important road win."

The Panthers jumped to an early lead in game one and were in total control offensively, hitting .489 while not committing an attack error en route to taking a 1-0 match lead.

The Highlanders fought back in game two, scoring seven of the first eight points including a six-point game opening surge. RU pushed the lead as high as 10 on three different occasions, before HPU whittled it down to six down the stretch. A pair of kills from Wagner scored two of the final three points, ending the game in Radford's favor.

HPU led by eight early in game three following an ace by Taylor, but Radford slowly chipped away at the lead and eventually knotted the score at 26 on a block. After the teams traded the next few points, tying the score at 28, HPU closed out the game by forcing an RU attack error and getting a kill by Mellott.

Game four was evenly played until HPU established a marginal lead on a series of RU errors and kills by Raus and Mellott. The lead got as large as four on a kill by Raus before the Highlanders scored three points to pull within one. Following a Panther timeout, HPU then outscored Radford 4-2 down the stretch to win the game and seal the match victory.

High Point concludes the road portion of their 2007 ledger with their third and final road match of the weekend at Triad-rival North Carolina A&T at 6:00 pm on Monday.
