The High Point University volleyball team made quick work of Savannah State on Monday night taming the Tigers in a dominating 3-0 (30-9, 30-10, 30-10) victory on SSU's home floor.

The victory extended HPU's current program record win streak to eight matches and improved the Panthers' season tally to 17-6. With 17 wins, High Point has now matched the program's Division I benchmark for victories established in 2004. Savannah State dropped to 4-20 on the year in the loss.

High Point controlled the tempo of the match from the start using an efficient offense and aggressive serving to capture the historic victory. HPU committed just nine total hitting errors for the match as a team en route to a season-high .406 hitting percentage. The Panthers also served up 13 aces and forced the Tigers into a negative hitting performance on offense (-.179).

Jamie Kaufman led the team with 17 kills while hitting .452 from the floor. Lindsay Raus had 10 kills and just one hitting error on her way to a .643 outing. Whitney Kaltenegger hit .400 recording six kills with no miscues to go along with her four service aces and match-high 14 digs. Kaltnegger recorded a pair of double-digit scoring runs from the service line for HPU in the match.

"I am very proud of how we played tonight," said HPU head coach Chad Esposito. "In the past, our team has had trouble staying focused in matches we play during the school's fall break, but this group refused to have a letdown. We played a fundamentally sound and balanced match and were dominating from the service line. It was nice to keep this win streak rolling with such a solid performance on the road. We just need to continue focusing on one match at a time."

After allowing Savannah State to score the first two points of the match, HPU raced back to earn a 14-6 advantage. From there the Panthers outscored the Tigers 16-1 and captured the game one victory. Kaltenegger ran off 10 straight points with her serve while freshman Anna Wiggs scored the final five points of the frame from the line including a pair of aces.

HPU jumped out quickly in game two taking a 7-1 advantage. High Point continued to build on its lead before Kristina Taylor served up the final four points and capped the win with an on game point.

Game three saw more competitive play early on as the Panthers clawed their way to a 14-8 edge. Again Kaltenegger did the damage from the service line scoring 13 consecutive points including two aces thus allowing High Point to cruise to the three-game sweep.

After playing five of their last six matches on the road, High Point returns home for a pair of games this weekend at the Millis Center. HPU hosts future Big South foe Presbyterian on Friday at 7 p.m., before welcoming in-state league rival UNC Asheville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
