High Point Falls to Montreat, 2-1

The High Point University men's soccer team fell to Montreat on Sunday, 2-1 at Richard Vert Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of HPU.

HPU (1-5-2) jumped out with a 1-0 lead in the first half when Matt Tuttle found Josh Windley in the 40th minute. Windley drew Montreat's goalkeeper out the goal for the score.

Montreat came out of the intermission strong. In the 50th minute the Cavaliers' Romario Blandon connected with the back of the goal on a penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. In the 73rd minute Toemile Towah scored the game winner unassisted.

"Montreat is a good team," said HPU head coach Peter Broadley. "But this is a team that we should be able to beat with the talent that is on our team. If we are going to pick it up for the rest of the season and in the conference schedule then we are going to have to come together and our upper classmen are going to have to step up and lead."

Panther goalkeeper Adam Ross had six saves while Howard Fisher of Montreat saved two. The Cavaliers led in both the shots category with 15 and shots on goal with eight while the Panthers had 11 and three, respectively.

The Panthers return to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 27 when they travel to Winthrop for the Big South opener. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
