HPU Volleyball Drops Close 3-1 Decision at A&T

Box Score

Despite another double-double performance by senior setter/hitter Michelle Feiser, the High Point volleyball squad suffered a 3-1 (26-30, 30-15, 33-31, 30-23) loss on the road Tuesday night at intra-Triad rival North Carolina A&T.

The Panthers, 4-5, won the battle in most of the key statistical categories but the Aggies (5-5) were able to capture the match by earning the key points in the contest. The match marked HPU's fourth consecutive road contest in their current month-long, 12-match swing away from the Millis Athletic Center.

Feiser finished with 12 kills and 39 assists to record her fourth double-double performance this year. Her 39 assists pushed her past the 3,000 assist mark for her career. Sophomore Jamie Kaufman led the Panthers with 13 kills and 17 digs while freshman Linday Raus also eclipsed double digit kills with 12, marking a season high for her.

Defensively, senior Jenelle Stouffer equaled Kaufman's dig total with 17 of her own and Whitney Kaltenegger added 10 digs to help HPU to a 75-62 edge in that category. Junior Sabrina Wahid led the squad with three aces and two blocks while senior Tara Mahoney returned to the High Point line-up to post a team-best .385 hitting percentage.

"It was a frustrating night for us," said HPU head coach Chad Esposito. "We just couldn't sustain any long scoring runs other than during game two. We made some untimely errors that proved costly in a close match. We are a young team that still is learning to play consistently for an entire match. I did think that Lindsay Raus stepped up her game for us tonight."

Reigning MEAC Player of the Week Arlene Mitchell led a trio of Aggie hitters in double digits finishing with a match-high 15 kills. Mitchell also led A&T with four aces and recorded 10 digs. North Carolina A&T's Lauren Walker topped all players with 19 digs on the evening.

High Point continues its stay on the road this weekend with a trip to Providence, R.I., for the Friar Invitational. HPU will face Sacred Heart (2 p.m.) and host Providence (6 p.m.) on Friday before meeting Gardner-Webb (10 a.m.) and Hartford (Noon) on Saturday.
