Women's Basketball Freezes Pfeiffer, 68-30

Candyce Sellars and Katie O'Dell scored 13 points apiece to lead High Point to a 68-30 win over Pfeiffer Tuesday night in women's basketball action in the Millis Center.

The Panthers (4-7) won their second straight game and held the Falcons (0-7) to the lowest point total for an HPU opponent since an 83-25 win over Peace on Nov. 29, 2000.

Raven Truslow tossed in a career-high 12 points, while Chan Ingram added 10 points for the Panthers. Emily Mills scored seven points and pulled down a career-high 12 boards.

Melinda Roesler led the NCAA Division II Falcons with nine points. Chelsy Sikes added seven points, a team-high nine boards, and three steals.

High Point scored the first 11 points of the game and led 16-2 following a pair of free throws by Amber Bryant  at the 14:50 mark of the first half. The Panthers opened up their first 20-point lead of the game on a layup by Sarah Haak with 9:33 to play in the half, and led by as many as 24 points before taking a 39-19 lead to intermission.

HPU forced Pfeiffer into 15 first-half turnovers. Sellars had each of her game-high five steals in the first 10 minutes.

The Panthers opened the second half on a 20-5 run and never looked back from there. HPU held the Falcons to 16 percent shooting from the field and 22 percent overall and led by as many as 40 points in the second half en route to the 68-30 win.

High Point held a 53-38 advantage on the boards and swiped 18 steals while forcing the Falcons into 25 turnovers.

Sellars provided a game-high five assists for the Panthers.

High Point has won the last 11 meetings between the former Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference rivals and now leads the all-time series by a 35-17 count. 

The Panthers return to action Saturday at UNLV. Tip-off at Cox Pavillion in Las Vegas is set for 6:00 pm EST (3:00 pm PST).
