Volleyball Sweeps Campbell, 3-0

Box Score High Point got 12 kills from Lindsey Pickens, 11 kills from Jamie Kaufman and 10 kills from Ashley Johnson to notch a 3-0 victory over Campbell Tuesday night in the Millis Center.

The Panthers won their fourth match of the year by a linescore of 30-26, 30-20, 30-28.

Pickens had 14 digs and Kim Anderson added 13, while Michelle Feiser tallied 38 assists for High Point (4-7).

The visiting Camels (2-6) got a match-high 13 kills from Alissa Brackeen, 13 digs from Crystal Seiber and 23 assists from Sarah Dillon.

"We played with a high level of intensity, but more importantly we were consistent from start to finish," HPU head coach Chad Esposito said. "Campbell played us tough, but we were able to match their intensity. It's nice to have a solid effort all around -- inconsistency has been our Achilles' heel all year."

Pickens recorded just one error in 22 attempts for a blistering .500 hitting percentage, and collected her sixth double-double of the season.

"Lindsey and Ashley really carried us offensively, while Kim and Lindsey did a great job on defense and serve-receive," Esposito said.

The opening game of the match went back and forth before HPU took control on one of Johnson's four kills in the opening frame and went up 1-0 on a Pickens kill. Brackeen had seven of her 13 kills in the opening stanza for Campbell.

The Panthers closed game two on a 10-3 streak which included kills by Pickens, Kaufman, Johnson and Sabrina Wahid for a 30-20 win.

The decisive game three also went back and forth. Pickens collected aces on the game's first two points before the Camels ran off seven points in a row. HPU battled back and led by as many as three points before Campbell drew even at 28-28 on a service error. But another service error gave the Panthers their first match point, which they closed out by forcing the Camels into a game-clinching ball-handling error.

"Collectively, it was a very good team effort," Esposito said. "We played together, trusted each other and had a lot of fun on the court."

The match was the Panthers' third win over Campbell in as many seasons, and opened a stretch of schedule in which HPU will play five of its next six matches at home, including Saturday's clash with Norfolk State (1:00 pm). The Panthers are 2-0 in the Millis Center.

"It'll be nice to play most of our games at home for a while," Esposito said.
