High Point got an 88th minute goal from Kyle De Klerk to send Sunday's match with UNC Wilmington to overtime, but the Seahawks scored the game-winner in the second OT period to edge the Panthers, 2-1.
The Panthers drop to 0-3 on the season, while UNCW improves to 2-0.
The Seahawks got on the board first with a Jason Small penalty-kick goal in the 43rd minute. UNCW took a 1-0 advantage to halftime.
After several serious scoring attempts, HPU finally got the equalizer in the 88th minute when De Klerk, a sophomore, put back a rebound into the open net after Wilmington keeper Bill Mills had ventured out to block a shot.
Neither team mounted much of a threat in the first overtime, but in the second UNCW's Austin MacPhee laced a shot off a free kick from 20 yards out into the right corner of the net to give the Seahawks the win. The goal came in the 106th minute.
Eric Lona made three saves for the Panthers, while Mills stopped four shots for UNCW.
The physical contest featured six yellow cards and 46 total fouls.
The Panthers open the Big South portion of their schedule Tuesday night against Liberty in Lynchburg. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
