Box Score Tracyann Pryce drove home 18 kills and notched five block solos to lead visiting High Point to a 3-1 volleyball win over Birmingham-Southern Sunday in BSC's Striplin Center.
The win snapped a five-match skid for HPU, who moved to 2-15 overall on the season.
The North Carolina version of the Panthers took games one and two by a 30-28 score before Pryce was rested much of game three by HPU coach Georgette Crawford. Alabama's Panthers stormed back to take the third frame, 30-26.
With Pryce fresh for game four, High Point jumped out to a 15-7 lead and never looked back, though Birmingham-Southern rolled off five straight points to pull to 27-26 and heighten the home crowd's hopes that BSC would force a game five. Pryce, however, drove home a pair of kills, then stuffed BSC's Rachel Malmborg on the last attack of the match.
Kamarsha Ryan added 15 kills and Lindsey Steinhaus had 14 for HPU. April Shields recorded 20 digs and Heather Brooks added three block solos and two block assists. Much of the High Point attack stemmed from the stellar play of setter Jaime Kutz, who notched 55 set assists on the afternoon. The victory was the first-ever over Birmingham-Southern for High Point, who fell twice to BSC last year.
Malmborg led Birmingham-Southern (8-11) with 17 kills. Jenny Thomasson tacked on 15 and Stephanie Harrington had 12.
High Point travels to Radford to battle the Highlanders on Tuesday night (6:00 pm) in another league showdown.
