Kirk Rudder scored a pair of goals to lead High Point to a 4-1 Homecoming victory over Mount Olive Saturday afternoon in men's soccer action at Albion Millis Stadium.

The Panthers improve to 3-6-1 on the season, while the Trojans fall to 2-9.

HPU took a 1-0 lead into halftime on the strength of Gareth McLelland's first goal of the season. McLelland took a pass from Kenzo Tochiki in the 28th minute and laced a diagonal shot from 12 yards out past Mount Olive keeper Derek Gish to give the Panthers the advantage.

But the Trojans came roaring back in the second half. Mount Olive tied things up in the 56th minute when David Nolan found a streaking Marlon Douglas, who scored from six yards away.

The Trojans threatened to take the lead minutes later when they were awarded a penalty kick, but Warren Atkins pushed it wide. HPU took advantage and retook the lead in the 60th minute when Danny Kitching fed Rudder on a perfect pass in front of the goal for a score.

The Panthers got a score from Richard Hanson on a header from Danny Kitching in the 79th minute, and Rudder's second goal of the game on a pass in front of the net from Aaron Andree.

HPU outshot Mount Olive, 21-6. Gish made five saves in goal for the Trojans.

High Point hosts Appalachian State Wednesday at 4:30 pm.
