Box Score Dustin Van Weerdhuizen (24 points) and Ron Barrow (21 points) each posted career-highs as High Point rang in the New Year with a 93-60 win over Covenant Thursday night at the Millis Center. The Panthers (4-7) broke a four-game losing skid by dominating the Scots on the boards (61 rebounds to 36), and by converting turnovers into easy points. Joe Knight returned from a foot injury to play 23 minutes and grab four steals.

Three Panthers posted double-figures in rebounds – Van Weerdhuizen (12 rebounds), and Mantas Ignatavicius and Brent Halsch (11 boards each).

John Stonehocker made his second start of the season and responded with four blocked shots and six rebounds for High Point, which held a 53-27 lead at intermission.

Covenant (2-11), an NAIA school in Lookout Mountain, Ga., was led by Julian Williams' 16 points.

High Point opens Big South Conference play Saturday afternoon at home against Coastal Carolina. Tip-off at the Millis Center is set for 2:00 pm.
