Earl Hunt poured in 35 points to lead Brown (5-1) to an 81-69 win over the home-standing High Point Panthers Saturday night at the Millis Center.

Hunt, who scored 33 points in the Bears' 91-83 win over the Panthers last season in Providence, shot 11-of-20 from the field and made 11-of-15 free throws. The only other Bear in double-figures was freshman Jason Forte (10 points), who hit all 10 free throws he shot in a return to the state where his older brother, Joseph, starred in college.

High Point (2-3) hung with the Bears most of the way. The Panthers took a 26-21 lead late in the first half on a three-pointer by freshman Steven Cornette, but Brown would battle back to grab a 33-30 halftime advantage. HPU's last lead was 43-42 with 15:56 to play after two free throws by Dustin Van Weerdhuizen, who led the Panthers with 21 points.

The Panthers pulled within 73-67 with 1:48 to go on a Van Weerdhuizen layup, but would get no closer as Hunt took over from the line to seal Brown's victory.

Jay Wallace scored 17 points for High Point off the bench, while Brent Halsch added 12 points and 15 rebounds.
